Are we all going back to the office then?

We’ve got a hybrid plan of three days in one week, two in the next. That’s not going to change is it?

September I reckon. I'm not going to think about going back until I have had my second vaccine.

2 days in, no dress code and can finish at 3pm. Not bad.

Full vaccination is available to everyone over 18 so it's time to fully open up. The schools all finish around 19 July, or earlier in other parts of the UK. I don't see there ever being a better time, and personal responsibility was always where we were heading to.

There was a virologist on BBC News yesterday or Saturday, and they pointed out that of all the times to have a surge - which there will be (as we're already seeing) in cases, it's now.

The only thing I'm dubious on is the masks because tbh it just doesn't really seem that big of a deal that I had to wear one. And I'll probably continue to just take one with me anyway because I think it's likely a lot of places will still ask you to wear one.

But other than that, life has to return to normality, we have to try.

I think a lot of places will be done on rota systems and stuff.

In reality, a lot of offices that were going to open up after all this was over with are already open and have been in some form or another for a few months.

Others, like my main job, have shut for good (though believe that was just due to the lease ending!).

Sadly I can imagine work life in general becoming very hippy like this. Dont like it either was always taught the suit makes the man.

Couldnt imagine rocking up to a meeting wearing sandals and ripped jeans.

We're not in the Victorian era lol

I have one suit and it cost me £10 from H&M. I'm hoping to go through my whole life without wearing cufflinks too.

But I wouldn't wear ripped jeans and sandals tbh

Its up to your employer I'd imagine but any sensible one will offer staff more flexibility.

I should have been clearer.

What is the main impact right now on keeping hopsitalisations/deaths low? It's the vaccines.

The evidence that masks aren't really that important is surely that right now, in this 'third wave' of cases, we're hitting similar case numbers as we were last autumn - back when masks were compulsory too. Had they had so much impact, we would surely have seen a bit more of a dent in the numbers.

Now, obviously, on a crowded train or public place or shop, I wear a mask and I'm happy to do it and honestly, like I've said, I'm surprised that they're not keeping them as mandatory.

But if the data really, really did suggest that they were so vital, I don't think they'd be dropping them...

They're an extra safety precaution, but social distancing (as in the most literal sense when we had to do that) was much more effective than masks, and the vaccination is much more effective than that because it allows stuff to open again.

I can't wait to go to a gig, hopefully the one I've got booked in August goes ahead. I'm sure everyone can't wait to be back in Goodison in a month too.

Obviously if you run a search there'll be plenty of articles either way on the subject. But just going off the actual numbers, I really can't see masks have been as effective in saving lives as the poster seemed to suggest.
Oh. Look.
Infected person coughs with other people around.
They are much less likely to catch the virus if that person was wearing a mask.
Because the mask stops the droplet spray.

Hope that's not a rule that's gets brought in universally - I like getting dressed up smart for work

Hate wearing shoes and being forced to wear clothes I wouldn't normally wear.

I to tend to have separate 'work clothes' though to stop my better clothes getting worn out

I think it depends on the employer, many businesses have realised they don’t need to pay out high rents to house employees after they’ve invested heavily in the equipment to allow people to work from home. My employer had 2 offices in Manchester each held about 4,000. They’ve got rid of one of them. The only people that work in the offices at the moment are essential, people who work in the cash office etc. Some will never go back and I work a hybrid role which means I’ll eventually go back maybe a few days a month.

I imagine town centres may look very different in a few years with many smaller businesses that were there to serve the droves of office workers going out of business. I think COVID-19 has set a marker. All it takes is another different new disease to come along and we go through the entire process again.
