It isn’t over-testing though that leads to positivity rate going up and hospital cases rising.

Overtesting, if there was a low rate of coronavirus in the community, would actually decrease positivity rate as the few cases you did find would be overwhelmed by the negative ones,

I feel like if the country was given an idea of what needed to be done to unlock then it would go along way to keeping everyone on side. This instance of Vermont reaching 80% vaccination uptake and then dropping basically all measures is what we need to be doing here.

The numbers are frustrating. Do you think theres any chance of local lockdowns for the north west? I'm sure I seen that Merseyside had its first 2 covid deaths since April in Sefton this week. Clearly locally its not particularly bad but Greater Manchester and Lancashire are bad. Some of these areas seem to have been consistently bad throughout the pandemic.

Hospital figures - 17 deaths were announced today, up 12 on yesterday and up 9 on last Thursday. 16 deaths were in English hospitals, up 13 on yesterday and up 10 on last week. The 7 day rolling average rises to 9.14

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 19 deaths were announced today, up 10 on yesterday and up 12 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 11.14

For the 60 day cut off, 24 deaths were announced today, up 6 on yesterday and up 12 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 18.29

Tbh if they are doing local controls or surge testing/vaccination then West Midlands and some parts of London look wise to proactively focus on especially as West Midlands case rates seem to be one of the ones going up sharply
