I know mate, but there is a halfway house that might keep the restrictions at bay and give you most of the freedoms back. People have given up where I am with mask wearing especially if they are old and been vaccinated - The I'm alright Jack crew.

Like I say let's hope the vaccines work to keep the numbers out of the hospitals to keep us out of any lockdowns. But if they don't they can only blame themselves.

There won`t be anymore lockdowns mate, the public wouldn`t have it.

It`s shiz or bust with the vaccines.

Aren't they hoping to do a new vaccine that basically covers all variants?

Once the over 40's have had both doses it should be pretty much plain sailing.

They cant do a vaccine that covers all variants sadly.

I mean they dont even do that for the flu and they have worked on that for decades.
I think you are getting confused with them trying to work out an annual single jab combining a flu and covid booster.

Im sure I read the current vaccines basically look out for the spike protein of the virus which is why the variants can sometimes evade it as most mutations of the virus are in its spike protein whereas this new vaccine would essentially be based more on the core of the virus cell which rarely mutates.

Might have just been something they were planning but sure I read about it maybe @LinekersLegs would know more!

Think I probably linked this at some point but have run out of my free articles so can’t recall exactly what it says
But think it was related to this work where as you say they are trying to produce a pan Sars vaccine that would also work on the variants.

The three vaccines already authorized for use in the U.S. work by feeding the body genetic instructions to create the spike protein that is found on the surface of the virus. Once the body creates the protein, the immune system is alerted and begins forming antibodies. It's a safe way of triggering a similar immune response as one a person would have after contracting the actual virus.

The WRAIR vaccine skips both the instruction and creation steps, bringing the already-formed spike protein straight into the arm along with an immune-boosting adjuvant compound, quickly starting the antibody response. And unlike other protein-based vaccines being tested, the WRAIR candidate presents virus-looking nanoparticles, each with a consistent array of 24 spike proteins arranged in small bouquets of three protruding from a ferritin base. "There's a lot of theories as to why something presented in this fashion gives such a good immune response, but in some ways you can see it looks like a virus as well," Modjarrad said. "So it has some properties that educate the immune response in a way that it gives you a very strong, but also a broad response."

"We think (other) vaccines are probably going to be protective against new variants, but they might be decreased in their protection," Modjarrad said. "What we've seen with our vaccine so far in animals ... is that the vaccine is not decreased in effectiveness against those variants at all. And it is effective against other coronaviruses like SARS-1. So what we have developed now is starting to look like a pan-SARS vaccine ... and we're going to start testing everything in between."

MONTEVIDEO: The CoronaVac vaccine reduces coronavirus mortality by 97 per cent, according to early results of the immunization campaign in Uruguay, which relies heavily on the Chinese jab.

In people who had received two doses, it reduced infection with the coronavirus by 57 per cent and intensive care admissions by 95 per cent, said a report by the health ministry of the South American nation.

Compared to other vaccines in use, there have been few scientific publications on the efficacy of CoronaVac, produced by Chinese firm Sinovac, and widely divergent reported results.

I have no issue with postponing the full opening up date by a month or whatever if that is the sensible course of action. We already have a lot of normality back in the UK. Obviously it would be great to have all the rules taken away but it’s not like we’re all locked up at home.

But we need to make sure we don’t fall into the same mistake again of trying to put the genie back in the bottle. Makes much more sense to err on the side of caution while we evaluate the situation rather than just blundering on again and counting the cost in the future.

We also have 3 weeks until the next change so let’s just wait and see what the situation is then rather than getting all angry about what may or may not happen.

Only 743 people in English hospitals, one up from yesterday only and it went down by 20 yesterday.

Despite these Indian scare stories, the number of people in hospital has remained stable and has seen days of decreasing. The North West is the problem, while the rest of your country’s regions has seen decreases. We’re doing alright and are below 100 patients.

I've said all along it makes more sense to open up fully once everyone has had at least 1 jab.

You could still relax more restrictions on June 21. Just not everything.
