We need to get away from 'cases' as its scaremongering and misleading to the current situation, quite frankly it doesn't matter anymore its hospitalizations and deaths that do matter.

It's increased chance of a variant escaping what the vaccine have achieved is the concern with case numbers .We are already seeing vaccines becoming less effective. Also, greater concerns around the world with so many variants circulating in the UK. All the good work by the NHS local.authority Army and the many volunteers being spaffed up the wall...

Why is the take up low mate?

Apart from the supply problem.
I haven't got the exact figures, but it's not as high as the Govt. want it to be.
People have seen all sorts of conflicting AZ reports (our main source atm) and it has an effect...and thats without the usual antivaxx suspects...many who are, you would think, 'educated' enough to know better...you know the type, SUV soccer mom's and hipsters

Here in QLD there's been an on going 'thing' about the state premier and health minister not going in TV to show the way.
So finally they did

They got on live tv, the standard flu jab ffs...and you wonder why the take up is poor.

The Prime Minister, has had his and refused to say which one...joe public taps nose and thinks Phizer for him obvs, not the AZ shight hes trying to foist in us.

Australia may have had a 'good Covid war' as they say...and it did

But its having a total mare in the vaccination peace stakes

You'll never get rid of Covid completely so quite frankly we have to learn to live with the variants. Providing people aint dying or needing serious hospital treatment life has to go back to normal as soon as possible. Now we have the basis for the vaccine we can tweak it every year like we do with the flu vaccines.

Preferably "no restrictions" imo should be once everyone has had at least 1 dose of vaccine and the over 40's atleast 2 doses but any restrictions after that on the basis of infection numbers is unacceptable.

Just what is it with that cotton reel emoji all these scientists keep using on Twatter?, just type the words “A thread”.

I hope one day Twitter and the rest of “Social Media” gets its comeuppance. I haven’t used Facebook for two years now although a profile still floats about, and never joined any of the others.

This Indian scaremongering is nothing but pathetic. The vaccines are working and figures good enough to move on come June 21st.

Personally I don’t see the discussions by scientists on Twitter as scaremongering - just an open discussion of what is currently known and unknown about a virus we still are in the early stages of understanding. Some the updates will be good news, some less so and there will be a lot of “not clear at the moment” and a lot of different interpretations of the same data even by experienced people in the field.

Social media has many ills but tbh one of the things I do really like is freer access to information and a wider range of sources. There wasn’t anything like this amount of discussion around H1N1 swine flu, just some rather bland daily government updates. For a data geek like me the change is welcome even if obviously the circumstances that brought it about aren’t.

I get your point but what doesn't sit right with me is this peddling of a variant.
We have almost crushed this thing in the UK then up pops a Indian variant to which we was getting told "were not sure if the vaccines are effective against it"
Now we have discovered that is, up pops another one the "Yorkshire variant" What are they going to try and scare us with next when they discover that the vaccine is effective against this?

Nothing suggests that 21st June wont be total freedom back to our lives, but if they try to impose more strictions beyond this i believe absolutely no one will listen and carry on regardless.

I agree with you 100% . However I'm with @JLW on this one.
There will be restrictions such as reduced crowds at sporting events.
Wearing of face masks. Table service only in pubs etc. Johnson will try
and keep everyone happy and upset everyone whilst he does it.
I think he will completely blow his 'vaccine bounce' in popularity that
has allowed him to get away with all manner of things recently.
I hope he does go through with it on the 21st June, but I really just can't
see it happening unfortunately.

Cummings vs BoJo...it's like alien vs predator only I think the latter two are more human.

Unless Cummings has some hard evidence he's not going to get anywhere- he's one of the most hated men in Britain.
