Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I don't see the point in playing 'Whack A Mole' with the vaccine.

By the time you vaccinate a high risk area and have the 2-3 weeks until the vaccine actually becomes effective from the first dose, the virus has either been stopped or spread exponentially already.

May as well just keep on the current track of vaccination via age nationally or, if they really want to pinpoint it, give it to inner cities/where population density is highest.

@peteblue - that you repeated and promoted the theory, even if it is proved true, isn't something to be proud of considering it came from a lot of fringe right wingers aiming to discredit the Chinese government and prop up anti-Chinese racist sentiment.

Donald McNeil, who let's be aware is potentially looking to snap back against a press he feels has treated him wrongly, doesn't offer any further proof of the theory being true either, he just states he has a bit more belief in it.

Could it be because, generally, we're seeing spikes in areas where vaccination uptake has been lower? So if they put the onus on those areas, the hope is uptake will be higher?

It has been a huge problem, especially in ethnic minority communities.

I honestly think we will end up seeing that it was an unintentional release from a lab.

A leak into the Wuhan ecosystem/area would surely make it a lot more feasible than just some evil lab letting it get out or it just developing in bats, then passing to humans, too.

Could easily have been in the food chain, and then with the culture of wet markets, you're soon seeing it mutate and change and then before you know it, Dave's been in the house for 15 months.

I've read with increasing number, articles suggesting there may be more than meets the eye over this one.

One has suggested there were miners that encountered guano in a cave that gave them an unknown pneumonia (and killed some) that samples were then developed in a lab.

Who knows what will happen. But if it was a man made (modified) virus then there's no way they will ever tell us, be it unintentional release or not.

No way it was an intentional release but I believe it was from a lab. The lab in Wuhan has been cited numerous times for safety breaches in years before 2019. Funnily enough that lab just happens to deal with... Corona viruses.

I don't get if it naturally occured why they were so secretive at the start and the issues the WHO had in entering the area.

Because that's China. That's what they do. They avoid admission of any form if embarrassment as they see it as a sign of weakness, and their whole thing is totalitarian strength over their own populace.

No matter how it started, if it were accidental it'd be treated the same way by them.

They probably had a glimpse at Pete Townshend's browsing history

Feel there is benefit in “surge vaccinations” myself even with the lag and especially if it is combined with outreach in underserved communities as @BlueToff mentioned.

All layered on top of surge testing and reinforcement of best practices and heightened awareness of what the Japanese has dubbed the three Cs - closed spaces with poor ventilation, crowded places with many people, close contact settings.

Of course how practical it is will depend on how numerous/large the outbreaks are when implemented.
