@peteblue - that you repeated and promoted the theory, even if it is proved true, isn't something to be proud of considering it came from a lot of fringe right wingers aiming to discredit the Chinese government and prop up anti-Chinese racist sentiment.

Donald McNeil, who let's be aware is potentially looking to snap back against a press he feels has treated him wrongly, doesn't offer any further proof of the theory being true either, he just states he has a bit more belief in it.

What I posted, did not come from any right or left wingers trying to discredit China. It was my own opinion based on what was known or suspected that the Wuhan Institute of Virology were engaged in, its closeness to the epicentre of the outbreak and the immediate attempts by China to conceal what was happening before they came up with the wet market theory. We may never find out, but for my money I have believed from day 1 where it came from and have seen nothing so far to change that opinion.....

I‘m not sure mentioning a personal opinion to the couple of dozen readers of this thread really constitutes an accusation of spreading rumours....

Surely an indication that this variant isn't significantly more contagious? I suppose behaviours may have changed in the local area but it seems early for a drop to already happen.
