Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Well, I've already had a text from my GP to arrange my second vaccination, which is a few weeks early, so I'm booked in for Wednesday.

Me too. Its deffo a few weeks earlier than I was told it would be. Also, the first jab was either a morning on a Saturday or Tuesday, this time, its 3 full days as a site. Which is both scary, and great, in equal measure.

And my area has been def com 1 for weeks, if not months.

One thing I’ve learnt is how this whole pandemic has turned low-paid people into jobsworths, such as this woman at Cardiff Tesco who parked up trolleys in normal times, is suddenly yelling at people to keep two metres apart and in one instance wouldn’t listen to them when they told her they live together. She just kept shouting repeating her sentence and then went “Don’t piss me off again!” when they got to the top of the stairs.

Last week at a shopping mall in Newport, a woman told me in a very blunt voice to keep to the left and I went back at her “Okay!, okay!, don’t be such a jobsworth about it!”. She didn’t say anything back maybe knowing she shouldn’t have spoken like that and just asked politely. I would have done myself, for starters I’d say please, she didn’t.

Dave?

Does it stop hospitalisations though?

If so its helpful.

Proper hope this variant doesn't mess everything up. Really can't deal with another lockdown and the impact of it.

Can't recall exactly but it was 3% effective after first dose in Chile I believe, and their healthcare systems got bladdered despite having a high vaccination rate.

They seemed concerned, but not overly earlier. As in, its a PITA, but the impact on health and hospitalisations, so far, is minimal.

I cant help but feel for the young'uns. They have spent over a year doing stuff to protect their elders, who are now mostly jabbed, and now, they are at risk of getting infected, without much protection. The hope is they shrug it off.

That is not my reading of the data I have seen

Ah that's quite the turnaround then if so. I haven't checked for a few weeks, I just remember the 3% efficacy and raised my eyebrows.
