Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Truly frightening. Come on people, start questioning what's going on here. Starting with why are we even considering vaccination of teenagers - number of Covid deaths in the UK to date of under 20s being below 30? Why are we still crucifying the thousands of SMEs by delaying their proper operation? Why has government just taken on consultants to direct COVID financing initiatives until next April - on a contract worth £320n? Why is government continuing to build up the national debt at a rate of knots? Why is mass media (albeit the pressure put on it by goverment and Ofcom) refusing to seriously investigate, or even report, alternative perspectives? Why is the prime COVID strategy of government to perpetuate the fear amongst the population? Why are hospitals still well below previous levels of activity on non-Covid matters? Why has Johnson not once responded to requests or the medical and statistical data and analysis to support his government's actions etc, etc, etc.

It's all just impossible to rationalise. I still refuse to accept that there is a global conspiracy in action. But unless the case for permanent restrictions on freedoms via total vaccination is elucidated, and answers are provided to those questions posed above (and many more), we surely should not sleepwalk into anything that may not be reversible. Despite the unwillingness of the main media to provide an objective assessment of anything about Covid matters there's plenty of the written word worthy of considering - though you have to be quick to catch it these days, with Facebook and others taking on the role of censors on matters of opinion and removing increasing amounts of previously available material.

You raise some fair points but I'd say that the reason the government are sorting financing initiatives until next spring is probably because there's, sadly, going to be some form of restriction this winter.

That might be stuff like large indoor events cancelled, matches capped to 10k capacity etc.

STAY WOKED

I think the guy who posted this is an arsehole....why didn’t he go further and mention swimmers with oxygen tanks etc etc etc. This is ‘oh look at me‘ and pointing out a minute use of oxygen while the world has gazillions of tons of the stuff that’s not going to India and the like.....I wonder how much oxygen was used on his flight over there....
Was this meant to be a joke? Pretty poor taste if so.

Winter will be the litmus test. Has the vaccine programme done enough to curb spread and hospitalisation rates in the season viruses traditionally are wreaking havoc.

Not to mention being terrified of new variants.

Err you do know the FDA is a US body yes? That this ruling doesn’t apply to the UK?

As for why we would vaccinate teenagers it is because, although they rarely die of covid, they can suffer serious side effects including long covid. They can also spread the virus to teachers, parents and grandparents - some of which may be immune suppressed. The vaccines have a very good safety record so many parents will welcome the option to vaccinate their kids although I’m guessing you aren’t one!

New Public Health England (PHE) analysis shows for the first time that individuals who receive a single dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine have approximately 80% lower risk of death with COVID-19 compared with unvaccinated individuals.

The report also shows protection against death from the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine rises from approximately 80% after one dose to 97% after 2 doses.

Separate new PHE analysis also confirms the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is highly effective in reducing the risk of hospitalisation, especially in older ages.

In one paper published today, PHE looked at the number of new symptomatic polymerase chain reaction (PCR) positive cases between December and April, and those who subsequently died within 28 days of their positive test and compared them according to vaccination status.

This showed that COVID-19 cases vaccinated with a single dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or the AstraZeneca vaccines had similar levels of protection against mortality after a single dose, at 44% and 55% respectively, compared with unvaccinated cases.

Combined with the protection vaccines offer against becoming a case in the first place, this is equivalent to approximately 80% protection against mortality in individuals vaccinated with a single dose of either vaccine.

For the first time, the latest analysis includes protection against mortality from the AstraZeneca vaccine, and additional protection from 2 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The data shows that protection against mortality from the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is even higher – around 69% – for confirmed cases who had their second dose at least 7 days prior to their positive test.

When combined with the estimated protection against becoming a case, this is equivalent to an estimated 97% protection against mortality in individuals vaccinated with 2 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

A separate new PHE report also shows further evidence that the vaccine is highly effective in reducing the risk of hospitalisation, especially in older ages.

For the over 80s, it is estimated that 2 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine reduces the risk of hospitalisation by 93%.

The findings highlight the importance of people completing their vaccination course.

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock said:

The evidence is clear that vaccines provide significant layers of protection against this awful disease. People across the country can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their risk of becoming seriously ill or hospitalised with the virus is significantly reduced after being vaccinated.

This news will be life-changing for many people who have worried about the devastating impact of this virus, either to themselves or a loved one.

The vaccine is saving thousands of lives and giving us hope on our road to recovery. When the time comes to get your jab, please join the tens of millions of people who are now benefitting from this vital protection.

Dr Mary Ramsay, Head of Immunisation at PHE, said:

The vaccines are saving lives every day. This analysis gives us even more reassurance that the vaccine is highly effective in protecting adults against death and hospitalisation from COVID-19.

Getting your vaccine will significantly reduce your risk of dying or becoming seriously ill from COVID-19. It will also significantly reduce your chances of getting infected and infecting others. It is vital to get both doses of your vaccine when you are offered it.

Minister for COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment Nadhim Zahawi said:

Vaccines have been one of the biggest medical marvels in history and the data published today proves how valuable they are in keeping people safe.

It’s fantastic to see this real-world data and the impact both vaccines are having on protecting the public and the NHS.

I urge all those invited to step up and book in your jab, and play a part in our journey out of the pandemic and back to normality.

Stick a fork in this, its still over.

lol lol lol

Are you seriously suggesting that Johnson is part of some conspiracy to use this virus to keep everywhere closed? He's already told you he'd prefer to see thousands of bodies piled high to keep businesses open.

I think you might have to rethink this.

This entire post falls into the popular category of “I’m just asking questions, what’s wrong with that”.

Problem is that many of the questions above have a straightforward, transparent answer (as LL showed above re ‘why vaccinate teenagers’).

Other questions have hidden, loaded or incorrect premises in them - I.e “why is the government’s prime Covid strategy to perpetuate fear”. Answer - that’s not it’s prime strategy.

Once you take out the easily answerable questions, and the ones founded on a dodgy premise, it doesn’t seem quite so much of a conspiracy.

I suspect you’re genuine in your concerns, but there’s a hint at the end of the post why your concerns are mounting - that you’re seeking your info from sources on “Facebook and others” - get them quick before they get deleted.

While mainstream media and official sources are far from perfect, the advantage they have over ‘alternative media’ is that they have structures of accountability, and regulatory bodies which oversee their content.

I'm hopeful, especially with boosters - if needed - for the people that need them.

But I do expect there'll be some restrictions. It won't be full lockdown, but can't see there being large events etc from about November onwards, and probably rule of six etc.

It's crap, it shouldn't need to happen, we should just live with it once the population has been vaccinated, but worldwide now, the whole thing has got mad and let's face it we're all just used to it.

Sort of agree that you'd hope to be able to crack on with life. And the vaccine signs are promising. But on the other I think if there is the credible possibility of a new strain which is resistant reacting is the right thing to do. Clamp down early and hard.

What I don't want is another start to 2021. Its nearly sent me crazy. Seriously. So I'd rather be cautious enough to prevent full lockdown.

What a way to have to think!

See below quotes why I'm not going to think too much about your questions, well as much time as it takes to pop a turd out. For some context on time I have high fibre and high hydration intake. And Flush!
