Yeah it could be down to a lot of things and India overall has a young population so, along with the lack of testing both on cases and on genetic sequencing, hard to make definitive statements on how this variant is different.Can this not also be attributed to no social distancing or mask wearing (until too late) and therefor greater viral loading? Whereas most of our cases in the UK are very mild due to minimal viral exposure?
However that is also a reason why I’d be a lot more comfortable if the UK was doing surge testing for it - we’d get good data that we currently lack that would be not only useful in determining its risk/spread in the UK but it could be used by other countries that don’t have such expertise or capability.
