Can this not also be attributed to no social distancing or mask wearing (until too late) and therefor greater viral loading? Whereas most of our cases in the UK are very mild due to minimal viral exposure?

Yeah it could be down to a lot of things and India overall has a young population so, along with the lack of testing both on cases and on genetic sequencing, hard to make definitive statements on how this variant is different.

However that is also a reason why I’d be a lot more comfortable if the UK was doing surge testing for it - we’d get good data that we currently lack that would be not only useful in determining its risk/spread in the UK but it could be used by other countries that don’t have such expertise or capability.

75% vaccinated plus naturally acquired immunity would probably reach herd immunity levels although given the political breakdown it would have wide regional variations.

You can tell there will definitely be a percentage of the population thinking about holding out on the vaccine until a “better deal” comes along though. It’ll turn into a bit of a game show.

Just had my second jab of das gnats piss at Saints Rugby ground.

Once again absolutely faultless, in and out in 5 mins.
