Oh for sure, I wouldn't ascribe that to anything but this particular situation. Just made me chuckle. That pub is also known for fencing bikes and he sounded genuinely disappointed that we're getting one of those bike locker things on the street. I'm probably painting a bad image of cockneys here, aren't I?

Merely confirming opinions really.....:)

Probably has some plod as regulars. My local is the chosen one for the local Special Branch and CID. (They call it The Office, their actual HQ is in the area). Helps like.
Remember a stay behind in my old local in Speke on the night of the 1984 Milk Cup Final between us and the RS. The pub had arranged a coach to bus the locals down to Wembley. It had broken down on the way back so the pub was staying open waiting for them to get back. I was one of the dozen or so in there waiting, when there was a knock on the window. The landlord got up, looked out the window and said "feck" it's the bizzies. Turned out they were "regulars" and to my surprise I had gone to school with one of them. He had the cheek to ask me what I was doing there. lol

To be fair if it was Europe it would take a couple of weeks, I was surprised it was convened so quickly.

Wish this happened any where but the States, antivaxers and Covid deniers, will have BBQ before their field day.
Yep damned if you do the pause but also damned if you don’t as perception would be not taking it seriously.

Hopefully at least the delay will allow for some further data collection.

Knocking on doors would probably be too great a task, though.
TBF that's what I expected to happen when I saw the term surge testing, as it's what they've done previously. I don't expect it to happen all over the 2 boroughs as that would be far too time consuming as you say, but maybe in the immediate localities to where the outbreaks were. I suspect many of them were same families.

It’s the % of positive swabs of all tests done at any one time! It’s generally a very good indicator of the level of virus in the community at any one time, more so then the likes of daily cases in my opinion. It’s the stat I keep my on the most.
Surely in places like Britain, where we are doing hundreds of thousands of routine testing daily, it paints an unrealistically brighter picture. If you're getting tested once or twice weekly you would expect negative tests. We must be recording figures of about 0.2/0.3%.

Edit

Based on the ONS weekly random testing England is currently running at 1 in 340, which is just under 0.3%. So maybe it is a fair reflection.
