Sputnik...

”Russia urged Slovakia on Thursday to return thousands of doses of the Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19, after Bratislava's drug agency said the jab batches it had received were different from those being reviewed by the EU medicine agency, Reuters reported. Slovakia bought 200,000 doses of Sputnik V last month. However, Slovakia's drug agency has not been able to assess the jab, due to gaps in data provided by Moscow.”.....

That is an obvious avenue (especially given the blood clot risks that come with the pill anyway) .

But going to be an interesting data analysis exercise as the European data is going to be skewed from restricting the AZ to younger age groups and in occupations (medical and teaching) that have a lot of women.
Great point, if you look at the sample from EU countries, with the slow rollout you are looking at under 70s, vaccinated with AZ being largely public servants or health care professionals, occupations as you say were there would be a particular strong cohort of women traditionally. It’s a very funnelled sample to draw a conclusion, but a trail of bread crumbs none the less.

Of particular note might be the data from the U.K., between the under 60s - 30s, but given the the decision in the week they must have come across concerning data.

There weren’t any particular red flags during the trials (although I think one of the 14 was a young man who died and is part of the EMA investigation data)

Health experts give green light to Janssen COVID jab, allay clotting concerns

The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine was publicly approved for international use on Wednesday by UN health agency expert advisory board, SAGE, which allayed concerns over clotting events being associated by some countries, without definitive evidence, with coronavirus jabs.

During trials for the Janssen vaccine involving nearly 44,000 people, 10 of the 22,000 people who received the blank dose developed a blood clot – or thrombo-embolic events - while 14 of the remaining 22,000 who were inoculated, developed a clot. “This is about the same”, for both groups said Dr Annelies Wilder-Smith, SAGE Technical Advisor. “There’s a slight imbalance, but it’s still not statistically significant,”

It has been halted in a couple of places but these seem more due to allergic reactions or a corrupted batch rather than the blood clots

Thanks mate. There hasn’t been anything statistically significant thrombosis wise, in the J&J roll out in the States mate? I think I’m right in saying it’s already being given to the public there, think Europe gets it first delivery next week.

I was thinking of regulation earlier, i think I’m right in saying and maybe it’s important to remember that most of the vaccines have passed regulation in the States and in the U.K. not for general use, but emergency use. I think it’s only the EMA that has cleared all the vaccines for general use.

Or for once are being cautious?

I heven’t seen anything and I can assure you I have been looking - I had the J&J on Tuesday ;)

Yep all the US vaccines currently approved (Pfizer, Moderna and JnJ) are all under emergency use.

Could be, to be fair I think it’s the clever play, why take the risk, the roll out has been a massive success and had a really great impact of case numbers and deaths. The UK I think can afford to be cautious, even if precariously they are likely to have 60s -30s in between AZ doses. Circumstantially they are entering a period of a second dose debt anyway, with a lower supply then previous months, so if there is a concerning data for under 50s, given the UKs, circumstances, it just makes clinical and practical sense to be to be risk adverse and front load the second doses of AZ in to that second dose AZ cohort. They will be hoping for J&J and Novavax in mid summer and likely finish the younger cohort just before flu season. That’s my reading anyway!

Really mate, thats great news, just the one shot, how were you after?

Thought that think it’s the same in the U.K.

Find them anti social and a pain in trying to speak to someone / understand them.

Soon as everyone's vaccinated they should be chucked out.

No problem putting one on in the future if I’m poorly but still need to pop to the shops, use public transport etc. But going about my general life I wouldn’t wear one.

I was half joking with my original comment, but to be real a lot most people want human contact and interaction. We don’t want to spend our lives covering our faces, feeling distant and isolated from others.

We’re also incredibly vain creatures. To go all sexist for a minute (sorry ladies) if I was a woman and I’d spent two hours on my makeup contouring the hell out of my face and had my lips done, I’m not going to be wearing a mask any longer than I have to. Tbf it’s the same as those fellas with the designer Rylan style beards which are definitely tattooed on and the jawlines sharper than a knife edge. Like hell those people will be covering up any longer than legally required.

This is crazy. Anyone under 55 in France that had the AZ jab is now going to get an mRNA jab (Pfizer or Moderna) 12 weeks later rather than giving the second dose of AZ. I am not one for vaccine nationalism but I am for governments acting sensibly. 500,000 people affected by this apparently. So at worse based on the numbers 5 people will die if they just carried on. How many will die with this change in course? We also have no evidence at all about how people react after one dose of an adenovirus vaccine and then an mRNA one (or vice versa). Madness
