I fear that those having beach parties will cause us all to pay for it later on though. We have still got half the country unvaccinated waiting for it to rip through again.
We had our first sit on the beach yesterday for a couple of hours munching away on a couple of pasties. We just went to the one most local to us but it's still a popular beach with the tourists when they're down here.

There were only about 20 cars in the beach car park but I reckon half of those were probably walking the coastal path. The beach was practically empty, mainly dog walkers and we had a lovely time in the sun just relaxing and watching the dogs playing.

Got to enjoy whilst we can, it won't last long. lol

Dunno mate. Might be just a temporary thing for the holidays, or maybe they already do it on line at school.
That's what I meant. I was thinking that the number of tests would have dropped significantly whilst the kids were off school, but if they are still recording positive test results whilst the schools are closed then presumably they'll be getting fed through to the daily figures.

The southbound M5 today was pretty quiet, for an Easter Bank Holiday anyrate. Same yesterday.

I don't blame anyone for needing to get out, just some of the scenes from the last few days are as if covid was never here. This then just speeds up the requirement of further restrictions. Now like @COYBL25 says we have half the country vaccinated so, it is different this time. Hopefully it will be all ok but if not I would like it to last 3/4 months before it goes to pot.

That doesn’t say seven people have died from the AZ vaccine.
No, of course not. Those (predominantly young) people would have all died of a rare cerebral embolism if they hadn't taken the AZ vaccine a few days before.

You'd have to be daft as a brush or desperate to retain an untenable position to not believe the two are related.

Morning David.

I had a choice of 4 , two that where nearer to me , but I chose St Helens RUFC as it takes 15/20 mins from South Liverpool .
Could not fault the whole process , spotless & very efficient.
Couldnt get it for my 2nd so booked Whiston hotel where our kid went & said it was superb.
Sounds like you received a very good service...one, tbf, echoed by the majority.

I can only take as I find, and the one I went to was woeful. There wont be a repeat performance. No chance I'd go back there.

Not condoning the beach parties, but those in attendance are unlikely to get seriously ill or require a hospital bed. Those who might have been vaccinated (some with both shots).

Of course they are young but those teenagers may pass it on to their parents who are in the late 30's to mid 40's range who haven't had a vaccination yet. Things then become a bit more grey in how ill they get. Didn't a South American country with good vaccination rates have a bad spike due to younger people who had yet had a jab?

I agree.

I'm just being optimistic that we don't see a spike in hospital numbers and deaths even if there is a spike in infections.

Be interesting if other vaccines have shown to have the same sort of immune response in those younger vaccinated.

We are "lucky" in that we are going into spring/summer during the completion of the vaccinations. Problem with Chile, which @The binman chronicles was thinking of, is that they are roughly similar to us, vax wise, but during their summer, folk got complacent, with the vax/falling cases. That has led to their spikes now, entering winter.

But it's not just deaths or hospitalisations. While the virus has hosts it will spread and among the infection there will be mutations, some of which could be dangerous.
The spread of the virus must be restricted, even among those who are not likely to be very ill.
The strain of the virus now causing havoc on the European mainland is a result of Johnson's refusal to lock down London earlier this year.

As far as I'm aware there is no similar response to this amongst other vaccines. A smaller number of cerebral embolisms have been witnessed as a reaction to Pfizer.

It's completely for the birds now to suggest that there is no link between AZ and a noticeable number of people with low blood platelets:

“It is not uncommon to get clusters of rare events purely by chance,” he said. “But once you find that cluster in one population and it then crops up in another – such as previously in the German and now in the English – then I think the chances of that being a random association is very, very low.” - Prof Paul Hunter, a medical microbiologist at the University of East Anglia.

It really is just a matter of keeping an eye on what the odds are in terms of a danger of embolisms and Covid19. If youlre of a certsain age it makes sense to get it if its the only one available; if you're younger (a lot of those getting embolisms are younger and mostly women) then there'd be a doubt as to whether to steer clear of it. That would be my assessment.

Again, this is where the media have played a blinder in ramping up fears.
Whilst mutations are a cause for some concern, the vaccines are proving effective against these. This also means that people who have had covid are unlikely to get seriously ill from a variant.
The Kent variant has proved to be more easily transmitted but nothing to suggest it is more severe.
We are very close to herd immunity for those that need it.

Again, not condoning the behaviours but I am increasingly confident that it won't lead to a spike in hospitalisation and deaths even if cases rise.
