Rishi Sunak, the banker, made his fortune in the baking crisis the bloke is a grade A [Poor language removed]. His shtick is to make money from misery.
So... the son of immigrants turns out to be clever, makes good career and personal decisions, and... this is a bad thing? Is this not the thing we liberal-minded folk are meant to celebrate?

I mean, had he been responsible for the banking crisis I'd be on board for criticising him for it - but as far as I can tell, you're criticising him for... being good at his job...

By all means criticise him for his political decisions - but, having a go at him for being semi-competent... hmm

Dont think the UK figures have been anything above abnormal, certainly that's what's been reported.

The suggestion in these decisions seems to be an impact amongst an under 55 cohort, im not sure what age groups the UK are vaccinating at the mo.

Apparently we are ramping up the 2nd doses across the 9 priority groups.

Eat out and die.

Given the timing of everything, and the commonly accepted theory that the virus has a 7 day incubation period before symptoms show, the chances are he caught the virus at home in Greater Manchester before travelling to Birmingham. The article should be praising Rishi for giving him the opportunity for enjoying a wonderful 3 day break before being taken by the horrible disease.

Let's not over egg it

The positive side to this is that there should be plenty more doses available for covax.

Its a funny one, France, Germany, Nordic countries and Canada all doing solo runs on the younger age groups. EMA hasn't changed its regulation. Though some of those countries aren't in the EU. Hopefully Covax benefits if its a permanent thing, but those countries are still doing their older groups at the moment anyway, so maybe they have the luxury of just redirecting other vaccines - to younger cohorts. Though it seems all a bit flip floppy, given the initial concern was effectiveness on over 65s - still you wonder what is guiding the decision making given the pause was lifted by the majority of the countries after the EMA reassurance.

At a Wetherspoons in Birmingham no less
Dear diary,

This eat out to help out is simply marvelous. A family trip to Birmingham holiday inn has been a great relief. I've had three days of £3 microwaved food, jazzy carpets and men leering at my drunken daughter. It would've been perfect if not for this new cough I've developed.

Thanks Rishi xxx

Not really the thread for this, but the Guardian is full of powder puff pieces like this these days catered for an indignant middle class liberal to get angry about on their antique leather chairs. As soon as anything ‘proper left’ comes along they soil their pants.
I find it very difficult to take seriously. A lot of stuff is emotive rubbish.

I was going to say who would go on a City break to Birmingham. but I've never done it myself so if you haven't tried it don't knock it. I'm always telling people that about Liverpool so fairs fair.

But seriously, why has nobody else picked up on the the 7 day thing? He started feeling ill on his first day back, which is only 3 days even if he caught it on his first day there. Statistically he is far more likely to have caught it before he left home. Surely. Or am I missing something.

The survey must include those that have been vaccinated Toff. That can be the only reason why the older age groups figures are so good.

I'm more interested in the younger age groups as it shows how many have developed antibodies naturally.

The number of people who will have immunity will be higher than that number as the antibodies fade over time but many people will still be protected by T cells. So it will probably be higher in terms of people with protection.
