Don’t know some of the smaller nations do some really impressive stuff at times Malta for example are stalking down the U.K. vaccine numbers.

They should it’s a great vaccine, it’s actually very similar to AZ.

Stalking down the U.K. numbers...I must be reading this chart incorrectly then as the U.K. is at about 38%. Although TBF if I add in the second doses for Malta it’s about 25%....

I’ve asked this before and can’t remember getting an answer, but why have Russia, the providers of Sputnik V, only given just under 8million vaccines to its population of 145 Million....

A few reasons I’ve heard, it’s been rolled out gradually because of the expanse of Russia there are still some reasons it hasn’t been rolled out, I think generally there is a vaccine hesitancy in Russia, while I think the Russian Goverment have prioritised international demand over domestic with the Kremlin using it as a way to resestsblish Russia’s profile internationally as a world leader in scientific development.

It was the first vaccine. People dismiss it because it’s from Russia, to be honest it’s a very similar vaccine to AZ, honestly it’s probably a little better. Hope we get it. The EMA has under a rolling review.

Even using your numbers 30 is not 40 is it....but It’s nice to see.....

Well no, but in mitigation they had 2 vaccines for most of their programme, they’ve done great, they were a lot further behind the UK in Feb - as you say as well they are doing second doses additionally.

On what basis is France proposing that it is only recommended for 55 plus?

Pretty much the same basis Macron has used to cast doubt on the vaccines effectiveness in the past.

If you understand that Emmanuel Macron's number one aim is to get reelected above everyone and everything else then you can follow the logic.

Things aren't going too well, he's been a disaster and the incredibly slow pace of procurement, approval and use of vaccinations together with the disgraceful central mismanagement of the whole project (by Von Der Leyen (VDL)) hasn't reflected too well on him personally (even if VDL is principally to blame). As with all countries the economy has had to take a catastrophic hit and the mounting criticism of his premiership is reaching deafening levels.

In France, if everything is falling apart it's a very good idea to deflect by launching an attack on the UK to deflect and show just how much you're on their side. If not a direct attack then one on a company that has English connections.

With his re-election prospects firmly at the forefront of his mind, he's enthusiastically gone down this route with all guns blazing and tried to smash the Anglo-Swedish company Astra Zeneca's Oxford produced vaccine's reputation because his re-election is far, far more important than anything. Saving lives or fighting the greatest crisis since WWIi don't get a look in they're very much secondary, all that matters is getting elected again.

Who can blame him it works, anti English sentiment is a huge vote winner in France, so Macron has wrapped himself in the French tricolour promising to lead France's economic recovery and hit the English hard even as the virus spins out of control,l. Unfortunately the vaccination rate is still painfully slow and the death rate mounting but the good news for Macron is that he miggt get back in again if he keeps these attacks going.

In effect because of his previous spurious and unfounded 'scientific' pronouncements from the great French 'psuedo-scientific'' leader he's effectively limited the AZ vaccine to only the 55-65 age group, even if not by law, and even then it'll face reputational damage so bad that a 70% refusal rate might be expected.

Macron especially, but to a lesser extent Merkel have badly undermined the AZ vaccine, hindered the fight against Covid and been a friend to the grim reaper

Macron has a lot to answer for but his attacks go down well at home, and having reluctantly been forced into reimposing another lockdown in Paris and the north, there's every reason to think he won't stop until reelected.

The lockdown rules in Paris don’t appear to be much more severe then where we are currently at. They can actually still go and get a haircut.

Now Pfizer afraid they'll be a casualty of the EU's vaccine wars

Pfizer has warned the EU to back down from its threats on vaccine exports to the UK because the firm needs crucial ingredients shipped from Yorkshire.

Pfizer and BioNTech have told Brussels that the UK has the power to retaliate against any export ban by withholding raw materials needed for its jab.

Croda International, a Yorkshire firm has been delivering vital "fatty molecules" to Pfizer's factories in the EU since signing a five-year contract with the firm in November. Britain hasn't so far banned any exports from the firm to supply Pfizer's production plants in Belgium preferring to not hinder the fight against Covid.

Pfizer and BioNtech are understood to have warned EU leaders that production at the main vaccine factory in Belgium could "grind to a halt" within weeks if the UK moved to prevent deliveries from crossing the Channel.

Ursula Von Stalin has threatened to cut Britain off saying they've exported no 'complete' vaccines. Any exports of crucial ingredients exported hasn't been mentioned or conveniently ignored as it might be seen to water down her politically motivated anger.

Yes Roydo hopefully our vulnerable groups will be mostly protected but it must be remembered that even the best vaccines aren't 100% and some elderly have really bad underlying conditions too. I suspect our vaccination program should prevent anything like the pressure exerted by the second wave though.

In Europe it's looking desperate. Individual countries allowed some autonomy and Germany are considering breaking away from common vaccine policy by ordering their own supply from Russia.

Meanwhile Macron goes from f**king awful to even worse, one desperate fool. He's imposed a month long lockdown in Paris and the north of France so about a third of the country, a lockdown he'd tried to avoid until after his elections. He'd previously promised to lead Europe's economic recovery after the crisis. Needless to say crowds packed trains, planes and every other kind of transport in a mad rush to get out of Paris, absolute chaos.

MACRON'S MIRACLE (France is that big black blotch in the centre)

Remember when the Covidiots where lauding Sweden for not having a lockdown and having a low infection rate. Sad to hear about the President of Tanzania.
