Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Are they scared of the fall out of people being angry? People will be a lot more angry when the death toll spikes.

I saw mums talking on Facebook about how it's not all bad because they'll get to visit the park everyday with the kids off. Plenty of people are in the dark about what's coming. About time the government acted and put them out their misery to start sorting the problem out.

I think they know this wont be over in 2 weeks.

They have tried to stop the economy collapsing.

Its sadly what happens when morons vote for morons.

I havent stockpiled either.

Humans can last 2 weeks without food, we have fresh water.

If people want fresh air they can open the window.

Italy have been in lockdown for 11 days and people arent taking even that seriously despite 500 people a day dying.

Get the tanks on the streets and shoot on sight people who leave their homes.

China style is the only way.

Given they are the problem here - and they are 100% lying about their infection rate and death toll - I'm not sure it is.

We're not the only country going down this route. We'll just have to see.

Unfortunately, many people are stupid and/or ignorant.
I'm feeling stupid for now having the option of 12 weeks fully paid sick leave from my employer if I fit into a bracket ( which I do )
But i am still going to work as I'm not sick.
My logic is however, that if i take the 12 weeks now, once completed, I will then become sick and be snookered.

That's great Pete. Just struggling to wrap my brain around your logic with the schools shutting down, a necessary evil IMO. Yes it will create hardship on families. Hence the need to Govt assistance. We are all in this together.

The lazy comment was with you dismissing how hard it would be to get 50 kids to avoid each other for a couple of weeks. Surely you are strong enough to not acquiesce to the will of a 3 year old.

Our 7 year old is bright, opinionated, persistent and like a dripping tap. She lives with us and I love looking after her during holidays. But I normally take her out, soft play, swimming, play areas, shopping etc etc. All the things she will not be able to do. She has a tablet and will play and learn from that, she will have homework, but she will see her mates in the park opposite and will be in tears, day after day for 3 months. Believe me people will crack......

Is there a time limit on when you can take the 12 weeks?

Thankfully my work is completely sound, so I've got no concerns about sick pay etc.

We are all working from home as well for the foreseeable, aside from some critical staff.

There are people who have would have a fair grasp of things predicting up to 1 million people will get it in Irelend with up to 50000 deaths.
That is with a population of under 5 million and a much smaller population density as well.
Staggering If that Is even close to being right .

It's a brand new policy they have released today.
Immediately, people went sick.
Maybe they genuinely are, but I'm reluctant to do it until I need it.. and then I can hear myself calling me a mug.

I can't answer that.

Even in my work, in a central government department in Whitehall, it didn't become a serious consideration until a few weeks ago. Nothing came from the top down.

It's not just ours as well mate.

Europe was woefully underprepared.

It's paying the price in lives and with another global economic crash.

The EU is done for after this, if reports are to be believed. I mentioned earlier about our debt-to-GDP rate. Well it's already a lot worse in most European countries, so God knows what'll be like after this is all over.

And unfortunately, maybe this is a callous way of looking at things, but in the long-term the damage to the economy is going to be far more greater in terms of loss of life than this actual outbreak right now.

I don't envy anyone having to make the decisions and no matter what people on here or Twitter say there's absolutely no easy solution whatsoever.

There could have been an 'easier' solution (whether it would have worked or not we'll not know), but like you've said the time passed for that weeks ago.

That would be a 5% mortality rate which is higher than the global average so far
