Italy is about 8% currently isnt it?

As you say, we can ignore Chinas 3%.

So if we ignore China's figures. The worldwide confirmed cases is 163,939 (n/a China)

Total deaths at 10,030. Minus China's deaths, that leaves us with 6,785

So that gives us about a 4% mortality rate as things stand.

from here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

But the thing is, it could all be for nought cause there aren't enough tests happening.

Madrid. So many police out and about here. Army patrolling too. I'm guessing that's because we are at the centre of it all but it is quite intimidating when you go outside to get something from the shop.
Yeah I'm in the mountains not too far from alicante. People getting fined for being outside. Limited people allowed in supermarket and have to keep 1m distance. Bit more relaxed here as less people, but people taking it very seriously. Not sure the UK quite knows what's coming

41000 cases in Italy. 3400 dead.
Some people dont seem to think so mate though.

And their response wasn't quick enough or good enough, clearly.

Let's hope it improves in the next few days in terms of the measures they took.

I don't know how it can be proved how many of those deaths fall into the 'vulnerable' category. If there's any figures for that it'd be good to get a gague.

There just seems to have been a lot of possible responses to this and each one has created loads of problems.

I still don't think any governments have done enough to protect the people which are actually most likely to be impacted by this. That would have been by having more tests done early, having more beds ready, having more ventilators built etc.

None of them did that. Even though two months ago they knew it was respiratory disease.

Instead they left it and now all the responses are doing are combining to make a dreadful situation so bad that it's going to make the 2008 crash look like losing a five down the back of the sofa, mate. And that will cost many more lives than this illness alone in the long run.

Same rules all applying here. No, I don't think a lot of people realise how bad it's going to be. This state of alarm is definitely going to be extended here. Good luck with it all.

My gran owns a villa in Moraira – has done for over 30 years now so that's where we always go on family holidays. Guessing you'll know the place generally?

There's a family friend who lives out there too and he's allowed out to walk his dog, pop to the shops etc. But it's, like you said, very sparsely populated (especially at this time of year) to the big cities. Fresh, sea air. Obviously there's concern but generally it's a bit more relaxed. They are going round with drones every now and then to check nobody is loitering outside for too long, though

For those with kids this might be useful
For as long as schools are closed, we're open. Starting today, kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids.

All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet.

Yeah we're quite hidden so tbh except for not being able to pop to the shop and my boy not going to school nothings changed much for us personally. I wouldn't like to live in an apartment with no outdoor area though.

Italy not flu it's chronic pneumonia.... horrific scenes there scary .....
50-50 chance of staying alive of you get it bad totally horrific scenes on sky news now.

The solace is the vast majority of people don't get it bad.

But we have to be doing everything we can to protect those who are vulnerable to getting it badly (which are the same people who are vulnerable to getting any flu/virus badly though, that has to be said).

Everyone can have their say but we don't know for sure which solution to do that is better just yet. The lockdown certainly hasn't worked as of yet in Italy but hopefully it will change in the coming days.

Hopefully the UK's measures of delaying the main peak of infection before going into full lockdown mode will be enough to slow it down and stop the NHS being completely overwhelmed.

Very hard to live life at the moment. Days so long, boring, restricted. All joy gone. So much uncertainty. Maybe should keep a diary

Not the slightest bit bothered about football at the moment.Whether the season starts again or not, whatever will be will be on that front.I think all of us are worried about, any elderly relatives getting this. You go to the shop, and you just rush in and out, just grab whatever it is you need and go, while trying to keep your distance from people. At times you think it's a bad dream, but no this is reality. All we can do is just follow all the precautions, avoid any unnecessary trips out of the house, and just hope for the best really.
