Would be interested to hear what the EU-bashers think of the USA, who STILL haven't approved AZ yet and are nonetheless hoarding millions of doses. You guys never seem to complain about that.

5089 cases and 64 all settings deaths in today’s data. Last Monday it was 4,712 new cases and 65 new deaths, but back then testing was a lot lower as the schools had yet to reopen (figures reported are from the day before).

Tests are well down over the weekend due to the schools issue.

Today's 5089 comes from 950,753 tests, which is over half a million down on Friday last week.

Yesterday's 4618 cases was from just 423,507.

So just 471 extra cases today from 527,246 more tests!.

Also, yesterday’s 4618 versus Fridays 6609 was from one million fewer tests.

Worldometer has yet to report an update in its recovery and current cases figures.

What’s to complain about ? The USA manufactures its own products and is vaccinating many times faster than the EU and not that far behind the U.K. in terms of jabs per %population......moreover the USA haven‘t so far been slagging off the AZ publicly.......

They haven't even deemed it worthy of approval yet.

Todays UK cases are up 377 on last Monday with 158,000 more pillar 1 / 2 tests yesterday than last Sunday for that lower number.

So the positivity number week to week will have fallen.

Less blood clots than the placebo but lets halt use of the vaccine which saves hundreds of thousands of lives.

Makes a lot of sense.

I'm inclined to think the pause is cautious, verging on over cautious and I think AZ will be fine.

But i think you have to be careful with clinical trials and their results to and take then with a pinch of salt or maybe rather a moving target.

For example take the efficacy of all the vaccines, the efficacy % published is trail based from an optimum controlled environment. so really what you are getting is trail data.

Its accepted that the actual efficacy of all the vaccines are lower then the trial data efficacy % - because there is a tendency for trial data to be higher because its in a controlled limited environment - its not the same as real world wide spread roll out.

Essentially trial data is massively useful but its contrived and controlled in optimal circumstances, the widely accepted caveat is that trail data such as efficacy is actually lower, when given in real life circumstances due to non perfect real life environmental factors.

Essentially trial data isnt perfect or reflective of real world roll out as environmental factors influence.

Norway has defended its decision to suspend the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine after one patient died of a cerebral haemorrhage following the jab.

Sara Watle, a senior physician at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and one of those who made the decision, said the vaccine had been paused while more information is gathered.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s World at One programme she said: “Because the situation was a bit unclear at the time we decided to put the AstraZeneca vaccine on pause, in order to get more of an overview of what was actually going on with these cases.”

She confirmed that several people in Norway had become very ill days after receiving AstraZeneca jabs, including one person who died of an intracerebral haemorrhage. But she added: “We have not concluded a causal relationship.”

She said: “The cases have been young individuals who approximately five to 10 days after vaccination with AstraZeneca vaccine have gotten the symptoms of thromboembolic events, bleedings, also low platelet counts, and they have been in a really bad condition. So, so we’re looking at very rare events that all came at the same time in our country.”

When it was pointed out that blood clotting does occur normally, Watle said: “Yes, they absolutely do and that’s why we need to look more into these events and also look at our background rates in our country in order to get an overview of what this actually is representing.”

She added: “It will slow down the vaccination programme temporarily, but we also didn’t receive all of the doses we were supposed to do from AstraZeneca so actually the tempo isn’t slowed down that much yet.”
