My eldest lads school shut due to there not being enough teachers in.

My youngest lads school had teachers and teaching assistants helping out in the kitchen and cleaning the class rooms after school due to staff shortages.

I’d imagine that was a similar case right across the country.

not really...once again we are getting London or city related solutions foisted on the rest of us.....

Yep, and ours will have about 10 max and 40 others having a holiday and playing with each other...bloody stupid
Then it’s up to the government to actually begin to enforce social distancing to some capacity.
In terms of stopping the spread in a school, we have 650 kids, we think about 80 will be entitled to attend on Monday. I would imagine that the potential spread of the disease will be greatly reduced by the rest of those children not being on close proximity of each other for the next however long. Okay, some of them may play out in small groups or whatever, but we’re talking hundreds of children coming into contact with each other within one building for 6 hours a day.

I understand that, but I’m talking about a village school of 50 kids. After 3 or 4 weeks try keeping a 7 year old inside the house and away from friends playing in the park opposite.....

Won't somebody think of the testicles ?

Yeah, they probably will, but that’s lower risk than even a a small school of 50 congregating each day.

On top of that you have staffing issues. We’ve been told to self isolate for 14 days if anyone in the household shows symptoms. It wouldn’t take much for the small staff base of that school to have to close due to insufficient staffing numbers anyway.

Not really, as we have ex teachers and volunteers helping at the school all the time.....

I just worry about kids being left with grandparents. And I see the stress this has left on parents who cant find any obvious childcare solutions.

I certainly dont claim to have the answers. Maybe there are no answers in this situation.

Who are older, more likely to have underlying health issues, and potentially at risk? Not specifically your village school, but if that is the make up of schools like yours around the country then I can’t see how it’s possible for them to stay open. This week has been a nightmare. We managed to stay open, but my word we had to fight.

Mine is a primary of 650 just to clarify.

I appreciate that, and I appreciate that closing may be the right answer. I just do not believe that closing our school of 50 makes any sense at all. There will be thousands of villages just like ours affected by this broad brush decision....
