Yep, I’m sure somebody will do the honours.

Oh, also, rates are going to increase when we open up, everyone knows that, what will hopefully happen though is people not getting seriously ill because they’ve been vaccinated.

R-number is a guide; fatalities are by far the most telling statistic. That's all was being said.

Lol thinking you had a smoking gun.

I care that 120k plus are dead but I also give a damn that kids like my near 10 year old nephew have not seen their friends in person and interacted with them since December because here’s the crazy thing you can care about more than one thing in this bat crap crazy time we are living in
That's fine. But a life taken is much more important than disrupted education.

You do realise, that even when our immune systems have learnt how to deal with this, and when perhaps only the over 60s get an annual booster, like the annual flu one, some folk will still die from Covid?

But we're nowhere near that point.

Only for kids of key workers, non key worker kids have been homeschooling
Must be alot more key workers this lockdown ,my 7 year old granddaughter is the only one out of her 3 closest friends not in school its really effected her confidence and she is so nervous about going in tomorrow.

Pre vax unknown virus pandemic levels? Of course not.

But early, real world data shows just the first jab is working; granted, that is within the confines of a "lockdown".

And only way to test if it works in the real world totally (as in, without lockdown) is by gradually easing restrictions.

Worth noting, there's a real worry over the uptake of the vaccine among ethnic minorities - specifically muslims. That really, really, really has to change.

In Bradford, they have an entire centre set up where you can just turn up and get jabbed, don't even need an appointment. They're trying to get as many people as possible in that inner city area to go, yet there's still not enough uptake among the Asian population.

People bang on about anti-vaxxers (and they're idiots), but this is a religious/cultural thing, and it's just as dangerous.

Of course, people will still blame the government, but these community leaders have to be the ones insisting adults take up the offer - especially since these minorities have been so badly hit by the virus too.

Exactly. We are in unknown territory.

Would anyone advise a person who;s been shileding and have one jab to be thinking of mixing a bit more right now?

It was wrong then, and now we have PROOF that infections are rising in some areas of the country and plateauing elsewhere we should see a rethink...but we wont, because this government dont give a flying one about human life....as almost 125,000 people in this country found out to their cost.

This is all about pacifying a Tory Death Cult determined to do the bidding of big business.

Vaccine uptake needs to be better - that's on people.

This needs sorting (as of 26th Feb).

With mass covid-19 vaccination efforts under way in many countries, including the UK, we need to understand and redress the disparities in its uptake. Data to 14 February 2021 show that over 90% of adults in Britain have received or would be likely to accept the covid-19 vaccine if offered.1 However, surveys have indicated much greater vaccine hesitancy among people from some ethnic minorities.234 In a UK survey in December 2020, vaccine hesitancy was highest among black (odds ratio 12.96, 95% confidence interval 7.34 to 22.89), Bangladeshi, and Pakistani (both 2.31, 1.55 to 3.44) populations compared with people from a white ethnic background.5

Even more worryingly, data up to 15 January 2021 show substantially lower rates of covid-19 vaccinations among over 80s in ethnic minority (white people 42.5%, black people 20.5%) and deprived communities (least deprived 44.7%, most deprived 37.9%) in England.6 Similarly, data from an NHS trust show lower covid-19 vaccination rates among ethnic minority healthcare workers (70.9% in white workers v 58.5% in South Asian and 36.8% in black workers; P<0.001 for both).7

These data follow a historical trend of lower vaccine uptake in areas with a higher proportion of ethnic minority groups in England.8 Cohort studies using a primary care database of 12 million people show consistently lower uptake of influenza and pneumococcal vaccines in black Caribbean and African populations (50%) than in the white population (70%)9; lower vaccine uptake was also observed in people from South Asian backgrounds.

Dave, the advice to people shielding is to continue shielding even if they've had the first jab. The advice to anyone who's had one jab - or even both jabs - is to continue following the rules and restrictions are still in place.

I'm sure you were one of the posters making a big deal out of this a few weeks ago?

You've also insisted that there's been too many kids going to school in the last few months. Maybe you're right, but by that logic, schools opening tomorrow shouldn't be much of a big deal then?

Nothing else is changing for 3 weeks - at least.

Its not just education though is it.
Even if you add in the social side, is that enough to endanger other people's lives?

125,000 killed in 12 months. Tell me we shouldn't be doing EVERYTHING to draw a line under policies that again place even more people in danger.
