Again, this isn’t the sort of thing that people would call up to report they are run down. It would have to have a low threshold for people to call, but not that low.

Then I'm not sure it has a massive impact, because we know how many people could be asymptomatic?

But, to have a system in place that people are used to is obviously a useful tool.

I do agree with the principle.

The number of tests we do is incredible really....
It really is, especially with the lateral flow tests being ramped up so well.

Just been looking at Worldometer who use per one million of each countries population and we have dropped down to 6th on the deaths tally. Italy are just behind at 1,792, with us on 1,829.

You can only compare like with like, with much lower numbers if you vaccinate at the same rate you vaccinate a far higher percentage and can make a massive difference.

England is 67 million people, around 23 or 24 million in vulnerable groups

A tiny percentage offered 90% immunity can make very little difference at all compared to vaccinating far more quickly even if giving something significantly under 90%.

I think sometimes these percentages are given far more extra meaning than they actually confer in practice tbh, for example vaccines offering 60% are generally considered extremely worthwhile. The annual flu vaccine will offer different protection rates against different strains and have seasonal and yearly variations too. Generally though the figures can vary from 30 odd percent against some types to greater than 60% against others.

To say something offering 50-60% leaves a huge risk is inflammatory language but probably unjustified imo. Even if the vaccine had no affect on transmissibility, which isn't likely to be the case, the protection for individuals would offer a fair protection against the likely severity of any infection.

As you can see from the link I posted above mate, the double dose strategy (within the recommended timeline) shows incredible results. That’s MRNAs, AZ was only rolled out in Ireland a week ago. On the evidence presented as I say the two dose - is the gold standard.

True enough on the Flu vaccine. I don’t like the minimising of flu, day to day it’s not an issue for most, but I’ve worked through bad flu outbreaks were all patients have been vaccinated and they are absolutely horrible.

A third of the whole population of England is in the vulnerable category, with a high risk of death. If you want me to accept that giving those people 50% protection and push them into the non proven unknown for 12 weeks - not knowing what the outcome of the second dose will be with the unsupported science, personally and morally I’d rather the most vulnerable are double dosed. If your asking my opinion on the greater good that’s it. A society in my opinion is weighed on how it treats its most vulnerable.

Maybe I’m naive but I think if you asked most under 40s, if they would forgo a dose of limited protection for a month or so, to stop or minimise the deaths of the most vulnerable, I think the majority would accept that, that’s just my opinion.

They are more moral arguments then mathematical ones in my opinion, I’ve posted two sets of data to illustrate my point, really the 12 week gap with the MRNAs and its second dose out come is the unknown, it could be genius it could be foolhearty, we just don’t yet. I hope it’s genius.

All the % you are coming up in your reasoning are based on unproven theory at this point as the data isn’t there to support yet. If the data emerges, we can then weigh up the moral Vs Mathematical (greater good debate). Or maybe the equity vs equality debate in terms of risk equalisation.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion but tbh I couldn't care less what you accept. I've explained the situation as I see it and there's no point saying it in a different way.

I'm confident the vaccination program in this country has been very successful and we've adopted the correct policy for the situation we were in.

Essentially we’re two lads giving opinion on the internet mate. I’ve no interest in being right or wrong here, in fact I’m not sure such a dichotomy exists, in fact I sincerely hope the UK strategy proves genius, it’s the one place if you were to pick one in Europe you would be really hoping things go well, it’s had a horrible time.

Pity we never adopted correct policies from when this started...yes it's good that vaccinations are proceeding well, mainly down to the NHS organisation and various other bodies in a co ordinated response.
Nowt to do with bozo and his cronies although they will claim the credit

Thats thing I cant get my head around.

What were the correct strategies? From a standing start? Without the benefit of hindsight?

Booked into the Royal for the Pfizer tomorrow. They’ve got some that’s going in the bin soon if not used so me lad got me and his mum in.

Nice one.

Any situation like that simply can't happen (any vaccine going in the bin).

They should literally be offering it out on the street instead of that. NEA. Get it in someone (no laughing at the back).

Got to admit felt a bit guilty at “jumping” the queue, but I’m coming up to 61 so would expect the call in the next few weeks and it saves me having to make a 260 mile round trip to Hull where my medical centre is due to work
