Not at all. How much social contact do you have at the gym, other than the occasional 'you nearly finished?'? Also most gyms have enforced strict hygiene rules, sanitise in/out, temperature check at door, wipe before using machine and wipe afterwards. Windows opened too, I'm a bit shocked they're not opening them earlier tbh.

In any case this is a big day, honestly, the strain of the past two months has been horrendous mentally. The fact we have an end in sight is incredible and gives us something to look forward to - roll on the coming months - all being well.

Just a relief to see we might have an end games. The lack of social interaction with friends and family has been getting to me over the last 4 weeks.

Absolutely mate. Grateful that, thus far at least, I've not had any friends/family taken very ill or worse. However, mentally, this has been the toughest period I think i've ever gone through - the glimmer of hope today has honestly perked me up no end.

Perhaps, I don't know much about the cinemas tbf i didn't go in the past 12 months. I recall the BBC article showing the % of people track and trace has sources as being at a gym and it was significantly lower than pubs/restaurants, supermarkets and schools.
Supermarkets are still by far the worst (worse even than those purveyors of flat ale and gruel) - something which seems to have been completely forgotten about

I've never read anything at any time from scientists in this field that they believe the threat from mutations isn't a very real and great danger.

Prof Gilbert was asked that, and she said they are confident but in no way complacent that they know enough about the virus now, and that the vaccinations will do what they hoped they would do.

The key, which I pointed out to you the other day, was until they had the genetic coding in the early days, they were not 100% what they were trying to do to would be effective. Once a rogue CCP scientists tipped them the wink, they were on it. They now know their base line stuff works, they now know the dangerous proteins to look at following any mutation, and can quickly and easily, (in their world), make changes to the AV vax.

Were you allowed to play 5-a-side in December?

If you were, I guess it does. If not, then I guess you'll have to wait until Step 3?

Edit: I think it will be Step 3 (no earlier than May 17th), if it's an indoor centre. If it's outdoor maybe the second part of Step 1 (which is March 29th)

It's organised outdoor sport/leisure facilities to me so from 26th March. However the graphic is very basic so maybe outdoor footie won't be allowed due to the numbers involved.

Which at the very least means a cat and mouse game to keep in front of an outbreak of new variants...and outbreaks of new variants happen in environments where infections are left to happen. Which places a huge question mark over going with 'Old Normal Summer and Autumn MkII'.

We know social distancing will collapse again this year...especially now all the brain dead have their "but we've got vaccines now lad' excuse lined up.

This WILL get out of control. You know it will.

Would that be because they have vastly more custom than any other form of retail or any sector in hospitality?

I share your concern of a too fast move to Normal. I dont share your concern that SD will collapse. But again, once the vast majority of folk have stuff in them that will train their immune systems, the dangers of catching Covid will be hugely reduced. Hence the time lines of a minimum of 5 weeks between changes.

Possibly - but the data quoted was back in October/November when pretty much everything was open

"data puts gyms on 2.8%, while supermarkets are 11.2%, pubs and bars are 7.4% and secondary schools are 6.8%."

It’s pure gold mate, my favourite one was the day he outed restaurants as only selling over priced muck.
The fact you believe that's untrue indicates you;ve never had a meal from one.

Ripped off by some "foody-hipster" who hands you a plate of "locally sourced" muck.
