The forseeable?

What do you think that means, bearing in mind you said eating inside will be in the past?

Do they pose as much of a threat as schools, universities and sporting events?

What do you propose we do about those?

We have loads of outdoor space, decking, sheltered and covered areas, views and tables. There is however no way we are opening unless people can sit in the pub. U.K. weather is all over the place, and it gets a bit chilly in the evening. It might be fine for 18-25 year olds in the towns and cities, but unless the sun is beating down our customers want to sit inside. Without the ability for customers to sit inside from the weather it’s just pointless.....
Be arsed sitting outside with all the smokers freezing to death.

Firstly it does give us real World data that the Pfizer jab is highly effective up to 4 weeks. That is new information. I described it as "promising" which I think it is.

Secondly, my post was mainly about the fact Pfizer's jab can now be stored in regular medical freezers which is great news.

About the freezer thing, yes. However we already knew it was effective after the first dose up to 21 days; this is being reported though as backing the U.K. decision even though four weeks was the end point of this study.

Once the Western immune systems have learnt to cope with this, (quicker than you might think), there should be no need to restrict anything. That said, I would not mind in the least if some of the adopted behaviours remain.

Let me just consult my reference book: 'The complete book of answers to absolutely everything'.

Sporting events? We saw before the last lockdown how that could be done; and it'll be more possible now given the vaccines. Crowds spread out with a max of, I dont know, 5,000-7,000 for most PL grounds (more for massive capacity stadiums) - catering a non-starter below the stands.

Universities: to reamin remote learning for the most part with summer schools for a face-to-face (the OU have operate) as long as an outdoor venue of some description can be achieved. Some ideas here: https://theconversation.com/covid-1...ive-things-to-stick-with-in-the-future-152287

All these issues are under discussion to best minimize the conditions where a virus can spread.

I agree with this. For instance, even when the virus is a thing of the past, we shall retain sanitiser dispensers at the pub entrances and the bar. Table service will also I think become the norm in country pubs......

Although it doesnt affect me, the WFH culture is here to stay. My lad even had a revised contract with his employer months ago. He loves it!

Obviously, the routine of getting an Autumn booster jab will extend well below the usual flu recipients, and I personally prefer the supermarket shopping experience with less folk in there. Heavens knows where the queues went though.

In my lifetime, in fact, all of us, this is the only event that has directly affected all of us.

I also think that local authority rules concerning pubs having tables outside will become more relaxed.

However the shutting of approximately 20,000 pubs, that don`t have the capacity to move outside, just to keep Dave happy will never ever happen.

Please feel free to bookmark and vault me at every opportunity in the future.

I don’t know about the sporting events, but I totally agree with remote learning at degree level. Years ago, back in 2003/4 I think, I was invited to see the facilities within Georgia Tech in Atlanta for remote learning. Technology has moved on tremendously since and for some subjects there really is no necessity for in-room tutoring. As you say, the OU was doing this 50 years ago.......

I've read this from you before. I'm not sure what the scientific basis for it is. Westerners have different physiology to orientals because of exposure to virus? Is this proven?

The biggest difference is that they organise themselves better than we do. They act in unison and they act decisively. The individual is NOT king there. And that's the way we should be.
