To be fair, I know a few in healthcare in the NHS who got two rounds of Pfizer in 21-28 days as well.

so do I (though in that case that was because the centre had some left over and phoned around local NHS sites to see if they could get eligible staff to get it)

Doesn‘t really matter does it, the strategy of a delayed second jab is being followed, so the only progress worth recording is against that strategy. You and Dave can howl at the moon, but it won’t make a blind bit of difference to the rollout...however, it may upset people who are unsure of the process, and your howling will not reassure them and indeed may even make some refuse a Pfizer dose...is that really what you want......
Err no.

For instance symptomatic infection rate at 6 or 9 weeks after first jab for those that hadn’t had a booster would be really great data to have.

It would be good for the UK for confirmation that risk was within acceptable limits and globally to other countries that may be interested in following a similar strategy.

...
Thanks for taking the time to read all the medical, scientific and expert opinion that you asked me to provide you pete, the people who pointed out calmly and politely what the problem with this particular bit of the vaccination process is.

I can see it has really sunken in, and you've not at all responded with yet more straw man crap based on things that were never said.

The thing is, that in health matters I just follow the advice. So if I’m told it’s Ok to wait 12 weeks then that will do for me. It now appears that everyone seems to accept that the AZ vaccine can be treated this way and that your concern is just about the Pfizer. Now as you have stated, it was the first one we used, and sure enough second doses were apparently given within 21-28 days following manufacturers guidance. Now considering that the vaccine that will mostly be used in the U.K. is the AZ one, then I assume you can accept that at least that part of the strategy is OK. In respect of the Pfizer, had I been offered it, I would be more concerned over its future availability (EU export ban) than the NHS etc etc telling me that a 6-12 week delay between doses is OK.....

It would perhaps be better if you read people's posts, otherwise you come out with things like this that mostly repeat what has already been said albeit leaving out criticisms of the people responsible.

Yes, the issue is with Pfizer doses. Yes, some people (Johnson's dad, Murdoch) got theirs as the manufacturer said. Yes, AZ works up to twelve weeks. No, you should be more concerned with your vaccine being potentially used incorrectly than you should about supply shortages.

At the current time agree that wouldn’t make a huge dent in it (although it would probably make a large dent in mortality figures).

But by the end of the year I can envision that a lot of developed nations will be largely vaccinated whilst say Africa being less than 5% and still having major Covid waves and I find that worrying not just from an ethical standpoint.
Hopefully Q3 and 4 will see a lot of vaccines flowing towards developing countries. EU plans to give its excess doses to Africa once it has its own shiz together. I’d guess UK will do something similar. China and Russia already doing it.

Haven’t looked at the details of UK quarantine - is this true?

I actually read an article about this earlier which has quotes from someone who had done this exact journey.

The article is behind a paywall but these are the quotes from the passenger:

‘The system is ridiculous. It doesn’t make sense. I was on the flight from Madrid surrounded by other passengers who were not from red-list countries. How can that be safe and a good way to prevent coronavirus from spreading? We are all mixing on the plane and then I’m made to go into quarantine ... While we were waiting to get off the plane, we were all in the same queue, shoulder to shoulder. What is the point of us going into quarantine now? It’s insane.”

Does sound like a mess but I'm not sure how you would get around it while only certain countries are on the quarantine list. The easiest and most sensible solution would be to have everyone entering the country having to go into quarantine. That would probably also stop the people that are going on holiday rather than travelling for legitimate reasons.
