Just my two cents here, but I've noticed a few posters saying that effective lockdowns must be in place for the remainder of 2021 regardless of the vaccine deployment.
Can I ask, what basis would continued restrictions be based on?
Fact of the matter is, if we can't get out of this with vaccines with super high efficacy rates (especially preventing serious illness), then we may aswell give up?
Roadmap should be straightforward here, vaccinate anyone over 40 as soon as possible (Nullifying the dominant Kent strain), then provide boosters in Sept/Oct again for the same cohort. JVT already said that as the SA variant has no transmission advantage over Kent variant it is on the back foot and unlikely to become the dominant strain.
In the meantime, slowly lift lockdowns, till normality in May/June?
Why would the government continue locking down if the NHS was under no stress?
Quite frankly the public would not stand for it, and as furlough ends we would risk civil unrest, which would at that stage be entirely justified.
