No way wet markets will be shut down. In China or anywhere else. They're deeply ingrained in national cultures. We need to look our end on how we deal with outbreaks in the future. We've failed miserably with this one.

But you can flip that on the head and say our way of living is part of our culture so why should we change it for them?

Screw them I say - hit them where it hurts their pockets.

that makes zero sense - I am sure, deep down, the PRC want us to go back to our way of living; its just removed 100000 from our population and nearly half a million from that of the USA

Well they are if they're clinically vulnerable.

They've decided to do it by age/vulnerability unless you're a frontline NHS worker haven't they.

I agree with you it'd be good to see teachers then get priority but the aim is to have everyone over 50 offered their first dose by late May and at this rate they're on target to beat that by nearly a month. But the rate of new vaccinations will likely slow down once more people start getting their second dose (that'll start up really around early March).
As long as they aren't opening schools and pushing propaganda against their union without a plan to protect the teachers. I believe their death rate is twice the nation average, they aren't alone in that but there should at least be some honesty about it

The wet markets are disgusting, inhumane places.

They also have a tendency to spread serious diseases and now could have (if the official version is to be believed) led to a global pandemic, the likes of which haven't been seen in 10 years.

If there is a way in which these things can be stopped or the numbers of them reduced, then they should be.

That is actually doing something about the problem, and also preventing horrid, horrid places where different species of animals are slaughtered and then served up in the same place.

Insisting that going to a gig at the O2 or a match at Goodison is actually a problem and what must be stopped for years to come is mind-boggling.
I agree the wet markets are discusting, however it’s their culture, as it is ours to slaughter lambs, cows and pigs etc.

I’m no vegi, but what’s the difference. Both are as in humane as the other, just because that’s what we are use to makes it no different.

They have changed significantly in many parts of China over the last 20 years, they can continue to improve. A lot of the markets have moved indoors to more hygienic premises.

It’s not the slaughter of animals, it’s the complete and utter lack of any hygiene rules and regs within the wet markets. Plus the proximity of multiple species being kept in appalling conditions right next to each other, which in turn facilitates an ideal environment for viruses to jump from species to species

As we’ve seen, you mess around with nature, it bites you in the arse.

If we don’t change globally, the day of reckoning will surely come.

All im seeing lately in the media is arse kissers of China telling us how wrong we are and how we need to change our way of living.

Funny how none of these viruses popped up in the UK but as usual some love bashing their own country as much as they can. Be thankful they can do it as if they lived in a wonderful advanced nation like China they would be slung in a reduction camp for saying their mind...

.... and yet people on here want to effectively outsource our protection against viruses to them?

Bash bash bash...
Just love the idea of a "reduction camp"
Pity we never reduced the number of deaths from the virus.

More in party arguing and conflicting messages..

I don't really see foreign holidays happening again this summer.

But I don't see why domestic holidays shouldn't be allowed if things keep improving come the summer. Plus it will be good for local economies if they get some sort of trade this summer.
