FT running a story about AZ vaccine and not being effective against mild/moderate Covid19...a story that's attracting a lot of heat, btw.

It's firewalled, so cant get at it.

So it still works then. If people don't get ill it works.
We all want it to work. However, we have to face the fact that some vaccines will need more work done on them than others. That Reuters piece isn't exactly confidence inspiring on the efficacy of the AZ virus with that particular variant.

IMO, the data right from the off has positioned AZ as a vaccine that will be of use rolling out internationally to get a base of at least some protection for some people. It was meant to be that way too: a cheap vaccine that can be made in high volume to ship out. AZ IIRC aren't a Big Pharma company with a great deal of experience in vaccine production, and perhaps it's being demonstrated now.

AZ is the world leader and is saving lives. Its brilliant it really is.

If a few people get asymptomatic COVID but everyone lives thats not bad.

They have produced the viable product which is saving lives. Time will tell.
Who is disputing that?
As for ‘the viable product’, I assume you ‘a viable product?’

FYI Moderna are projecting production of 600m dose’s for 2021.
Pfizer-BioNTech are aiming to deliver 200m doses to the US alone by July 21.

AZ are currently trying to increase production to 2m doses per week.

That's why I said: it's attracting a lot of heat.

AZ have made a statement:

Included in that statement this bit, they definitely are leaning into giving an extended period between doses compared to the original 28 days

AstraZeneca confirmed that early data from a small trial, first reported by the Financial Times, had shown limited efficacy for the vaccine against mild disease primarily due to this variant.
"We do believe our vaccine could protect against severe disease, as neutralising antibody activity is equivalent to that of other COVID-19 vaccines that have demonstrated activity against more severe disease, particularly when the dosing interval is optimised to 8-12 weeks,"
