Bruce, decisions are made, rightly or wrongly, the government has made loads of mistakes so far. Many of course were known about only through hindsight. If SAGE or Alt SAGE, the CSA or CMO have been shouting about closing the U.K. because of the SA variant, perhaps you can show me where it was mentioned at the time. At any moment in time one scientist will say one thing and another something else, so whatever decision is made if it is incorrect people will point at the other scientific view and say they told you so. We have it at the moment, Germany says no to AZ for the over 65’s, the MHRA and EMA say it’s approved. So who would you go with ?....come on decide right now.....
It's documented in the minutes from the SAGE meeting on the 21st January - a week before the government decided to stop travel from those regions. As has been said many times by the scientists themselves, it's their job to advise, it's the politician's job to act on the advice.

So as an example, what is your decision on using AZ on over 65’s.......yea or nay...

I'm flattered that you're comparing my cursory education in bioinformatics with actual experts in epidemiology who are in a group specifically designed to advise the government response on the pandemic. I fear it may be misplaced, however.

Boris has to make a decision, he probably knows less than you, it happens unfortunately, so yes or no for over 65’s....

Well if the people I've hired to give me scientific advice tell me that it's wrong to use the vaccines on a particular age group, I probably wouldn't sit on that knowledge for a week before deciding to do something.

Don’t want to speculate too hard cos I could be wrong but if the hospital figures are an indication then the data catch up figures could be under 4 figures for the first time since mid December which is a positive

Full data to come later but with the hospital figures itself, it’s around 300 odd up on yesterday with the catch up but crucially around 100 odd down on last week
Just think how much further they'd have fallen if there was a lockdown and quarantine worthy of the name in place for the last 2 months?

Bruce. This is as simple as it gets. The MHRA and EMA say yes to over 65 for AZ, Germany says no for over 65. Which one do you agree with ?.....
