I never voted on Brexit and was leaning more Remain than leave however early signs maybe just maybe the EU needs us more than we need them?

Flying through with this vaccine whilst they are ending vaccine programmes and throwing haymakers at AZ with AZ calling them out as liars.

I'm very much pro-EU but this really is indefensible stuff.

But what gets me is the 8% thing. Basically a number plucked from thin air, effectively a placebo at that point - a number that so obviously was wrong that it sent alarm bells ringing immediately about it being remotely true, yet these journalists - in their nationalists anti-British glee - ran with it immediately with no public source they could use to back up the claim.

Stunning. So many scummy, lowlife decisions led to that info being published, and the damage it will do will be irrevocable; it's an anti-vaxxers wet dream.

Ha. To be fair, we have plenty of journalists over here who’ve been consistently running pieces which undermine our COVID response, and do so without any sources whatsoever. Hopefully that German piece gets a hasty retraction, as is horribly irresponsible.

Not to mention either worried over 65s who got, are getting the AZ, while it continues to be rolled out, if there are safety concerns they need to be raised quickly, it’s massively unethical if not. Maybe the UK Government will comment.

If you're 'vulnerable' (no matter your age), you are getting offered the vaccine by Feb 15th (as a target).

True, but if the immunogenicity of the AZ vaccine was 8% mate, we'd already be seeing hundreds of vaccine recipients flooding hospitals. Similarly, post-vaccine research would be showing in the UK of loads of vaccine recipients coming down with COVID, even if asymptomatic.

But there's nothing.

Not only that, but 8%??! If that's true, then the EU wouldn't be licencing that for under 65s; they wouldn't be licencing it at all. Imagine - you're 64, and because your birthday is one month earlier you're going to be given basically a placebo instead of the Pfizer/Moderna one - nah!!!!

Is it really their place?

This disagreement is between AZ and the EU. It's got nothing to do with the UK really - in fact, it's the EU who seemingly have tried to drag the UK into it.

EU countries proved last year that for all their bluster, when it counted, they acted for their own nations first. Which is absolutely fine, btw. It's what should be done - what had to be done. Just not sure the UK government should be getting involved right now!

I must say, I'd be prepared to believe any other government in Europe over the UK one. They are liars and murderers. I just hope the people at AstraZenica were independent enough to be rigorous and honest with their findings, and not simply go along with a fabrication concocted by Johnson and his fellow gangsters.

Well that's the problem now - people sceptical of the Tories will jump on that story.

It needs a firm, hard, bilateral rejection if it's untrue. No politics; this is proper "greater good" stuff.

I’m not sure that over 65’s in the U.K. will be hanging on some report in Bild telling them it’s only 8% efficacious...Even if the EMA agree with them, our own MHRA has given it the thumbs up...the Europeans can do whatever they wish.......

Never bought the 'us needing them more' argument (or the other way round).

I don't think this is as such a Brexit thing, but as @Tubey points out it is sure to be used as a tool and whoever published those reports knew that, as did the sources.

It's a disagreement between a big Pharma company and a trading block.

The MHRA are not government. Oxford is not government, AZ are not government. The Bild report was obtained from government sources...come on Dave.....

The Tories deserve no benefit of the doubt. They are in lock step with that Oxford vaccine. If the EU and US regulators dont back it then the Tories have tried to kill multiple times more people than the virus.
