Home schooling isn’t the answer mate is it mate ?

It’s not learning, it’s just treading water.
I honestly think if rotated properly the kids could all have at least one day a week in school.
Key workers don’t work everyday do they and get the teachers vaccinated.
That one day would at least keep some continuity and the kids bubbles would be easier to manage with smaller amounts of them on site.

We had a class video call yesterday - there were 14 kids in school out of 31.
In the first lockdown there were 4 kids in - headmaster and teachers pleading not to send kids in if you can home school - its utter madness

I tend to side with the argument that it depends on what's being offered by the school in conjunction with the ethos of the child and their parents.

It's never going to match what they're going to achieve in the classroom, but as I've said a few times my girls' school is really going the extra mile.

My son's school is doing well too - much better than last time - but even with our support it's not the same nurturing environment as a primary would be.*

You then hear horror stories from other parents about what they've received, or not received may be the case, and you understand their frustration.

My wife says though that many parents just simply aren't bothered before you even consider their own abilities. So, it's to what extent they actually learn.

It's probably going to help that the DfE and OFSTED are apparently monitoring the provision, therefore schools simply can't coast at a distance.

*Understandably, we may be in the minority here.

We have a class video registration at 9am every morning, so you have to be up and out of bed.
They get set loads of work to do as well.
Even PE lessons.
It’s very good and can’t be easy for the teachers to have to set work and as you say, still have loads of kids in school itself.

Yes, we have a 8.45 meeting - the workload is probably double-even treble what we had set in lockdown one very involved a lot of it too,
Last year we used to do an hour or so of maths in the morning and two hours of english / topic work in the afternoon - no such luck this time

Found this to be a useful resource (at least for folks in the USA):

TBF, now that the school have sorted out the lessons and the technology, the process of home learning works well enough. My concern is over the level of content being used which I feel is far too simple and not really stretching. Kids being unable to mix will present different difficulties .....

Pfizer temporarily reduces COVID vaccine deliveries to Europe

OSLO (Reuters) - Pfizer will temporarily reduce its deliveries to Europe of its vaccine against COVID-19 while it upgrades its production capacity, the company and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) said on Friday.

"We received this message today a little before 10am (0900 GMT). We had expected 43,875 vaccines doses from Pfizer in week 3 (next week). Now it appears that we will get 36,075 doses," the FHI said in a statement.

The reduction in deliveries is due to Pfizer limiting output so that it can upgrade production capacity to 2 billion vaccine doses per year from 1.3 billion currently, the FHI said.

"This temporary reduction will affect all European countries," said the FHI. "It is as yet not precisely clear how long time it will take before Pfizer is up to maximum production capacity again."

Pfizer said it had to make modifications to the process and facility that will require additional regulatory approvals.

"Although this will temporarily impact shipments in late January to early February, it will provide a significant increase in doses available for patients in late February and March," Pfizer said in a statement.

Non-EU Norway is getting access to the vaccines obtained by the European bloc thanks to Sweden, an EU member that will buy more than it needs and sell them to Norway.

The institute said there would be no delays in the rollout of the vaccines to Norwegians as it had built reserves of vaccines in Norway since it had begun receiving deliveries.

Many EU nations say they are receiving lower-than-expected supplies of COVID-19 vaccines and complain of uncertainty over future deliveries, EU officials told Reuters.

I sit with my granddaughter throughout the school day and they do get lots to do, probably more than they would in class. I spend a lot of time uploading her work and further explaining work content. There is very little free time.....

No love lost here between Prof Chris Whitty/Sir Patrick Vallance and Bojo.

The medics are treating auld messy hair with the complete contempt he deserves!
