Binary application of the law, in respect to Covid Legislation, would have given rise to some very anomalous results.
Oh definitely and it's a difficult situation for the people to follow and the police to enforce. Like you said, it's about applying proportionality to the actions.

I like going for walks along the river or beaches and common locations include Speke, Parkgate, Crosby, the North Wales Coast or sometimes up to Cumbria.

At this moment if I want to do this, I can make a sensible and reasoned judgement that there's some places that I should go and others I shouldn't.

With regards to Johnson, a seven mile cycle isn't particular long or strenuous, but understandably if he's travelled by car then it can muddy the waters.*

The best thing to do would be to legislate for it with a clear message and that's it. *Mitigation could be his safety and security as the PM.

I can easily see justification for it on the basis of safety and security. I don't personally think a 7 mile cycle is unreasonable, but it's not about opinions it's about the law*

The issue is the inconsistency in application as some will look at it and quite reasonably think 'if it's ok there, it's ok for me'.

*Makes me twitchy about the wide range of power given to the Government in the coronavirus bill when arguably existing legislation would've been sufficient. And it's, as we are seeing, never a good idea to be 'tough' on things when you do not have the resource to do it effectively and, it only ever reduces the likelihood of consent where there is capricious application.

Largely the lack of adherence is a social problem, not one of law and order; law and order should only be for the more egregious circumstances.

I can't stand this, her statements are 99% soundbites and nonsensical babble.

I’m not on about people driving to the likes of the Lakes for “ exercise “ I’m talking about the cyclist who leaves his house and puts a 50 mile plus shift in, the distance runner, who goes out for a couple of hours or more.

Normal everyday things are slowly being demonised and the herd are gleefully jumping on board.

Sitting on a park bench is now a crime, driving to your local park to feed the ducks with kids is against the rules and worthy of a £200 fine.

Waiting outside a kiosk for a coffee could now be banned.

It’s a very slippery slope.

In some respects the crackdown is good. The only problem is that they are cracking down on people who were already doing the right thing, individual bike ride, sitting alone on a park bench ...Meanwhile folk not wearing masks are roaming around Tesco’s.....
