Remember when we shut the economy and football grounds for months every year, cos of the flu?
Im in my 40s, I know you are a little older, but this last year has been utterly remarkable.

Countries closed down, economies destroyed, yet there are still some people saying "Its just the flu", it boggles my head, why do they think governments have taken the actions they have? Nothing has been seen like this since the whole world was at war.

Hospital figures - 387 deaths were announced today, up 21 on yesterday and up 1 on last Saturday. 314 deaths were in English hospitals, up 40 on yesterday and down 1 on last week. The 7 day rolling average rises very slightly to 337.43

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 520 deaths were announced today, up 96 on yesterday and up 123 on last Saturday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 430.29

For the 60 day cut off, 599 deaths were announced today, up 121 on yesterday and up 160 on last Saturday. The 7 day rolling average rises to an even 481

Just the fru doe eh lads?

It has been remarkable.

My personal year started pretty remarkably, but even so, the normality of masks and SD and being hermits, brexit, no fans, zoom TV, gun boats in the channel, James signing, early retirement, in the benefit system, have combined to make it quite the wowzer.

(Reads like a Billy Joel song that).

You certainly started 2020 with a bang.

Does it really though?
Influenza kills on average between 15,000 and 20,000 per year in the UK, with pneumonia accounting for another thirty-thousand - some will be flu related.

In 2/3 of the time and with numerous national lockdowns and with higher standards of social distancing and cleanliness, we're at a minimum of 65k deaths.

COVID-19 > Influenza - it's that simple.

Believe the numbers all you want, there is a huge difference of dying WITH it and dying OFF it.
