Give the pensioners the good one. Under 60s can have the Oxford one which is easily good enough anyway, much better than the flu vaccine for example.

But do you know/can you request? Like when I’ve been for vaccs in the past they could just be pumping water into me for all I know. If I was going for a COVID vaccs I’d only go if I knew I could have the proper one.

Doubt you have a choice in the matter but it seems reasonable to use the slightly less effective one on younger people who are less likely to get seriously ill or die.

Thing is we've ordered vaccines from 7 different producers for a total of 350m vaccines. When ordering they had to cover all bases as you can't just commit to one because you are screwed if it doesn't work out. And you have to order early as if you wait you wouldn't be able to get enough. You also have to take into account how long rollout takes. So again better to spread risk across as many viable vaccines as possible.

We have 40m Pfizer vaccines on order, so enough for 20m if they are all used successfully. According to Wikipedia (as of 2011) the UK population aged over 55 was just below 18m. So we should have enough in theory to cover pretty much all of the most vulnerable people with the Pfizer vaccine.
We're already told though that the Oxford vaccine is going to be used in the vast majority of cases in this country. It's cheap and easy to store. They, though, are its only advantages over vaccines that are, simply put, much better at offering immunity.

I watched a CNN report also last night which cast major doubts over the testing of the Oxford vaccine. This is a major problem and WILL cause a big cleavage between the have's and have nots (those who can pay for a Pfizer/Moderna/ possibly other vaccines and those just stuck with the Oxford vaccine).

During the Oxford vaccine trials nobody got seriously ill from covid?

This is a world class vaccine. It will result in herd immunity and its fantastic for third world countries as its easier to use.
It hardly tested the over 55s.

Please read/watch the reports.

I understand where you are coming from but this vaccine is still fantastic.

Well I know if it was me I'd rather just wait to get the better one.

In this case a little knowledge is dangerous. Every year we get the flu jab, no one has ever asked its efficacy percentage or who it was tested on. Now everyone is an expert. If it’s approved, in whatever dosages, then it will do the job. Just be grateful for the jab when it comes, because millions of others around the world will still be waiting and dying in line .....

I wouldn't say it's dangerous. Why would it be wrong to want a version of a jab that is over 40% more effective than another?

It's like if I said here, drive this car around, it has a 40% chance the wheels will fall off when driving or I gave you a car with a 5-10% chance wheels will fall off. If you had to drive on which would you drive?

It’s not 40% more effective. If a half dose is followed up with a full dose it gives over 90%. As I said, whatever vaccine and dosage is approved will be fine.....
