Not gonna lie, but truly scratching my head.

There is no logic, a broad brush clampdown taking no consideration of local rates or behaviours. Just lump everyone in together. It’s like the contents of the tiers were just random suggestions plucked from a hat, and measurements and rates used taking no account of trends and geography. Boris is going to have a proper rebellion on his hands next week......

If it was explained, then that would be a start. Like I have reasoned that I am in Tier 3 cos I share a NHS Trust with Bristol; if me behaving helps the hospitals in Bristol, I can fully buy into that.

But that is my conclusion, not any reason thats been given. Its the same with you and Leicester being cobbled together. So frustrating, and I dont have to worry about a business and staff. Must be 10 times worse for you.

This world is a cesspit.

I watched some rank film called Greenland the other night, I was praying for the "extinction event".

But then, look all through history, the human race is horrid, just horrid.
Huge majority of people are decent. Sure we all do regrettable things and sometimes people vote for the tories but on the whole we’re an ok bunch. Just a few misguided idiots who think they’re important ruining it for the rest of us.

It looks like there is going to be a proper argument about these new tiers and restrictions....
They're a scam to avoid lockdowns. A way of keeping money coming into government and aiding big business. They said back in the summer under no circumstances would there be a second lockdown like we had in the spring - and they delivered on that promise.

I don’t really think so. If it was arguments for keeping the cities open, with their high Covid rates, then that might be fair comment. I think this rebellion will be on behalf of those little places, who took the pandemic seriously, have almost no cases, yet are having their lives turned upside down.....

I don't really know where the surprise is with people's Tier ranking. I'm surprised anyone is going into Tier 1 with the festive period coming up.
It's the varying rates, over the summer and early autumn you could not get away from 20 in 100,000 travel corridor it was nauseous. So people are conditioned to that ratio now it's variable rates puts you in a tier.

Any sensible government would have behavioural sciences trying to make sense of sitting opposite your granny for Christmas diiner but dont touch her, utter freaks.

The majority of England is under tier 1 and 2 - that's basically pubs shut and a few more hospitality venues. The rest of the economy in those areas is open for business (and much of the economy in tier 3 is too). This isn't a lockdown for industry per se. It's a pale immitation of what a real lockdown looks like.

Yeh I asked this yesterday; they know full well no one will SD over the festive period if a few households can meet up for a party haha.

All down to populism, a wise man makes his own decisions, and ignorant man follows public opinion. 'Johnson saved Christmas'. Last Christmas song is going to be very poignant next year.

Being a bit ignorant here (have been trying to avoid news for a week), but have the gov set out the methodology for the tier system?

Doesn’t seem hard to do - if numbers a and/or b go above x, this equals tier 3, repeat for other tiers.

There must be some method underlying the ratings, even if we can then disagree about whether it’s the right method, and what the appropriate boundary lines are etc.

But just seeing disputes this morning would indicate either people haven’t seen the methodology or it hasn’t been made public.

The vast majority are in 2 and 3.

And no one is calling it a lock down from next week. The frustration is that folk who have done everything they have been asked seem to have been flung together with areas that are still experiencing significant infections.

I think the picture says it all. Broad brush, no consideration for those in tier 2 or tier 3 who should actually be in tier 1...

Looks like they are working on the methodology until next week. Myself prefer the evidence then plan. I know I know Corbynista to the core...

They explained it yesterday. Trouble is, they gave the things they were measuring, (infections, age groups, impact on local NHS services), but not the answers.

So we have situations where areas with lower infection rates are in Tier 3, when some with higher are in Tier 2. Now, the reason may be crappier NHS services, or worse levels of over 60s getting it, but we just dont know.
