Liverpool really is the 'teachers pet' for the tories here... Maggie will be pleased
I know you're trying to provoke a reaction out of scousers here, however, I do feel VERY uneasy at the position Anderson and Rotheram have put Merseyside in. Basically, we're being used to divide and conquer the north.

Anderson and Rotheram have bent over backwards to do this governments bidding and the word "scab" must be on the tip of some people's tongues. I know it would be on mine if it were the leaders of Manchester, Sheffield or Newcaslte or wherever doing this.

We should be all in this together.

Current waiting times for general outpatient appointments is months , not weeks.

There will be more like this sadly and it's not as if it could have been helped. Consultants have been trying to see urgent patients and some have started their clinics up in the past couple of months but it's mainly telephone for many specialities. That's just the reality of the health service for the foreseeable.

It’s unacceptable but I know for certain that a select few posters here will not bat an eyelid. They are so myopic in their view of lockdown that the costs of restrictions are either deliberately ignored or relegated to unfortunate, rare incidents which should not distract from the war on COVID which all social, medical and scientific aspects of life must now revolve around. These cases will be rationalised away as casualties as part of the bigger, more important and pressing fight.

Welcome to the future where you’re told your dying over Zoom. But of course, we’re all in this together...

Unacceptable that London isn't in tier 3.

What rationale has been given for why it has been graded so low?
I dont know mate. I watched a news piece last night that there was a big distinction between some borough's R number and others. Perhaps they believe they can say that on balance the whole of the capital shouldn't be put into tier 3...or some such BS.

But the practical difference between 2 and 3 are pretty minimal.

Essentially its pubs open or not. And a handful of lads at a football match or not.

Granted they aren't major differences but with the footfall in the pubs over the festive season it could be significant. For or me it just seems to be preferential treatment for the capital which is not in line with the rest of the country.

I say preferential, if there are spikes after Christmas it may have been better to be in a tier 3 region.

I agree.

The whole of the North West pretty much in tier 3 and Liverpool City Region has been rewarded with Tier 2.

It has the uncomfortable feeling of Anderson and Rotheram conniving with the Tories to get a favourable Christmas period and they've allowed our region to be used as the Tory poster boys.

Burnham has defo been tagetted to make him a whipping boy.

This leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

...I don’t think Anderson/Rotherham have been conniving, I note they are at lengths to distance themselves from the Government, I get the impression they are uncomfortable with all the praise from Westminster. I think the Government are scared of Burnham’s popularity and see this as an opportunity to criticise.

They are using Liverpool and will continue to do so. Next time they are accused of being London centric, I can see them again highlighting Liverpool to counter that view.

The whole Christmas thing pisses me off if I am honest. The scientists at the briefing were not exactly bang up for it.

And the pubs/football over Christmas hadnt occurred to me, but its a fair point.

As for preferential treatment for London, dont buy that. It is more likely that the age profile of cases is under 60, and/or the NHS Trusts there are ok, capacity wise. I am in Tier 3, cos I am lobbed in with Bristol for example. Cuts both ways.
