My daughter is at Uni and also works in Tesco. She rang before to say that Uni has shut down so she is coming home next week to write her final dissertation. We were discussing stockpiling and she said that earlier a woman was buying 6 x 4-packs of beans which made my daughter silently judge her.
She felt bad seconds later when the woman walked over to the food bank and put all the packs in it.

Loans are fine. It has to be loans surely. Not all of the 330 billion will ever be paid back you'd imagine. But they cant just hand out 330 billion.

All the additional grants are not repayable though.

I was thinking that.

Other countries are supporting businesses and the conservatives are doing so , but expect the money back which will financially cripple them long term .

So, so far we have don't go to pubs club's and restaurants but you know , sod them not getting any business . If your company is struggling we will help, but want every penny back.

Jesus I knew the Tories were bad but this is a whole new level of upper class entitlement. No longer about tax, when all is said and done the business side of the country is going to be in debt to them!

You couldn't make this up. So far they have not announced a single measure that actually helps anyone during all of this unless it benefits them in some way.

This is a very weird take.

Precisely, because you give 330 billion with no conditions and it will not be spent wisely or claimed by those who need it most.

I imagine there will be plenty of debt write offs from this fund in years to come.

Something doesn't sound right about China reporting just 21 additional infections yesterday. I don't understand how a country of 1.5bn could have this under control already - considering the state of Europe.

I don’t believe the German death figures either.......

Although it may merely be an urban myth, I was reading about a man who was confronted in ASDA by an angry crowd for having a trolley full of toilet paper.

Security had to break the hoards away and explain that he was actually a member of staff who was in the middle of putting them onto the shelves.

The interest on the loans will also be low with some mentions of less than 1%, which when you consider inflation makes it a double bonus for businesses.

...

Erm, that £25,000 grant is not repayable as I understand it....

No but the millions are with interest.

That's the difference here, this isn't helping businesses , it's profiting from them long term.

Sorry a worldwide virus is affecting everything in the world. Here, here is some money but we are going to profit on every single penny you pay back

And what happens if companies struggle to pay it back? Do they have to go out of business in debt to the government?

I'm not a business savvy tbh but owing the government is far worse surely?

This is a very weird take.

Not really. Other countries are financially supporting it's population . Ours wants to profit from it.

All those families stuck at home together. If one of them has it they're all gonna get it. Nightmare. And only cases getting to hospitals are being tested and recorded now so the official figure is likely a lot more.

The infections certainly, but deaths will be fairly accurate.

probably there has been a coincidental massive increase in the number of people killed in Shaolin fights, or eaten by flying dragons

We are doing the same as the other countries. I see no difference.

There is no conspiracy. As long as the money is available to the right businesses, and quickly, then this is good.

The interest will be far less than a business could usually lend for anyway so that's a good thing. Debt isn't a problem if a business can be sustained and service the debt. If the scheme is ran properly, that sort of cash will save thousands of jobs.
