Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Something doesn't sound right about China reporting just 21 additional infections yesterday. I don't understand how a country of 1.5bn could have this under control already - considering the state of Europe.

I understand why the government would want to loan to businesses rather than just give them money, but why is there interest on these loans?

That seems extremely predatory to me
I was thinking that.

Other countries are supporting businesses and the conservatives are doing so , but expect the money back which will financially cripple them long term .

So, so far we have don't go to pubs club's and restaurants but you know , sod them not getting any business . If your company is struggling we will help, but want every penny back.

Jesus I knew the Tories were bad but this is a whole new level of upper class entitlement. No longer about tax, when all is said and done the business side of the country is going to be in debt to them!

You couldn't make this up. So far they have not announced a single measure that actually helps anyone during all of this unless it benefits them in some way.

Because they contained it to a location.

If we just had one city with it we could isolate it but we don't, so it's not as easy to contain. China effectively cut Wuhan off from the rest of the country and aggressively quarantined , hence why it's under control.

That and the obvious that everyone got it effectively and have recovered so the infection rate drops significantly

Think their lockdown started about Mar 9 wasn’t it? So my understanding was sometime early next week if the measures were effective is when you should start to se the difference.
The big question then is when do you unlock the lock down.

Mistakes will undoubtedly be made in this regard. The fact that we're approximately 2 months behind China and 2/3 weeks behind parts of Europe, will hopefully give us a heads up.

Where do you think they can get the money from though ?

If it isn’t paid back by individual businesses it goes on the national debt which hits everybody. Why is that more fair ?

It's act of God scenarios we are talking about here rather than specifics.

I get what you are saying and you aren't wrong. Probably can't have it both ways. The longer this goes on however , the more the people are going to be looking for the government for help and if the help is loaded with terms and conditions then it's going to break people's trust on the government in general.

There's one thing being quarantined in the future and isolated now for a scary virus and it's another when you feel abandoned by your country whilst it is going on

Erm, that £25,000 grant is not repayable as I understand it....
