Been on my mind that. Sturgeon cancelled the usual Edinburgh rave a few months ago, but imo, tons more folk party that night across the UK than do at Christmas. Not sure what will happen if pubs are shut.

Yes thats my thinking, I'd imagine you will get a lot of families who will meet up in the same group as Christmas justifying it by saying well we only met up a week ago so whats the difference now.

Will be interesting to see what the government put out about new years eve.

I dont think I have ever had a NYE party with family. Christmas was always the family thing, NYE the lash up with mates. Think thats the problem they have to solve.

The hospital I work in started this yesterday. Every member of staff who regularly comes into contact with patients will be given this week a box of 25 lateral tests to do at home twice a week. Each came with an individual QR code we had to scan which registered our details before taking it.
Think ours will be in house rather than a home test but I think testing has begun here. My staff aren't clinical so we aren't involved but hopefully they will open the lateral tests to all staff.

Did anyone believe it would end restrictions in England so very late in the second lockdown.

Here in Wales schools are now being shut once COVID is found should have always been the case up and down the country. Anyone who believes children can social distance etc, are frankly thick.

It's not about 'ending restrictions' - The pubs are restricted and have been extremely compliant in adhering to guidelines

This 'substantial meal' bollocks came in as a way to deflect the truth that kids and spotty little University oiks were spreading the virus like wildfire

They've thrown the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to the hospitality industry - Just because Concert Square exists don't assume that all other establishments have ignored government guidance, because in my experience, the vast majority certainly haven't

Fingers crossed they do open them up to all for your staff. We’ve been testing once a week with sending swabs off to lab and results next day since last week of October. To early to tell at this stage whether us starting early with staff swabbing just how effective it’s been but will be intrigued by the results when available.

No. Schools should not be closing at all.

Thick it is then.

Much more targeted approach is what is needed, requires the administration and academic class to stop playing mass debate with each as if they some tribute chuckle brother act that went to University...

Oh well enjoy Tim Martin and his Wetherspoons empire.

I can`t fathom why they`re seemingly so hell bent on destroying the hospitality industry, when 10% of all the people employed within the UK work within it.

Then there`s the knock effect of suppliers going bust etc, city / town centres being decimated ( Liverpool being a prime example )

Especially when " the science " proves that hospitality industry as a whole is only responsible for a relatively small amount of cases compared to other places.

It's not really hard for NYE.

Get some drinks etc in, put on Jools Holland.

Go out at midnight to bring in new year, wave at neighbours.

Go back inside without killing anyone.

New Years Eve is always a massive let down anyway.

Getting charged to go into ratty pubs, nasty, unpredictable drunks, who`ve been on it all day and treble the normal fare to get home in a cab ( if you can get one )

Eh?

I have no desire to furnish the pockets of Tim Martin - and if anything, the current restrictions are playing directly into Wetherspoons hands and that's what i'm getting on

The small/independent pubs that have never been inclined to/had the capacity to produce cooked food are being banned from opening even when they are following guidelines

Why don't they just employ a larger number of trading standards 'Covid' officials and grant them the power to close places down if they fail inspection?
