A different Christmas? A quieter, more reflective one?

I know my Dad is pretty pleased my Mum isnt fretting about seeing various kids and Grandchildren over the festive period, as per normal. He quietly pointed out that she can do all that at Easter instead.

Nail and head.

My missus is going to her parents by herself and I’m going to mine on another day. We’ll keep our distance as per usual and no contact.

Operation apply common sense.

Plus it’ll be the first Christmas in years I haven’t had to put up with her drunken, waster parents, camping in the house, getting up at midday and sitting on their arses all day.

I flip back and forth tbh.

Ive seem my family twice in 9 months. One of those times was for a couple of hours. I usually see them twice a month.

I would really really like to see them.

Not go mad. Not act as normal. But the ability to see them which I don’t have at the moment.

I know this is the Daily Mail, so obviously sensationalist, but stat-wise this is mostly true, and highlights the danger of being over the top and therefore irresponsible on predictions and projections.

The government/scientists did it for two reasons - one, by dramatising the situation they shock the public into action. And two, by significantly over-estimating what could happen, when it doesn't happen they can claim it was because of the action taken.

But the problem is their projections were so unrealistic as to be immediately discreditable. It's eroded public trust in them completely.

I think now it's time to just tell the public "look, we're nearly at the end here, vaccine is on the way, cases have levelled off, just be sensible at Christmas and use a bit of common sense". Because nobody is paying attention to this lockdown anyway.

Would be very very depressing with huge mental health implications. I think again it comes down to people being sensible.

If I end up going to see my mum and dad who aren't particularly vulnerable or old I'll still try to isolate as much as possible leading up to it. In Liverpool you could even go for a few tests prior to seeing any older parents/relatives - its a shame this option isn't available nationwide.

You can have a negative test result and still have the virus in your body.

People need to be careful thinking a negative test result is ‘ok go’ for seeing vulnerable family members.

I wouldn't go to see vulnerable family members. What I don't get with the testing is surely it picks up any virus? I thought the point was that you could catch the virus after the test and then spread it?

There is a latent period where the virus can be in your body but not be picked up by a test.

Depending on the test used false negatives can be as high as 1 in 3 I believe.

Not saying you would specifically, but it’s a narrative I’ve seen in the media and social, that you can get a test and you’re alright.

Yeh everyone has different situations and surely theres an element of judging the risk. Me and my partner work from home, we both see nobody for weeks on end and I'm quite confident that the risk of us spreading it to family members is very low.

Problem with a break for christmas is people will just go too far and we'll end up in an even longer lockdown.

It’s not that hard really is it ?

Behave and have a “ sensible “ Christmas.

No one can say now that they don’t know the consequences - misbehave and people die and the economy shuts down again.

Never happening, boozy delayed Black Eye Friday nights out, massive family Christmas party, Boxing Day parties etc.

Undoubtedly it will happen in Jeremy Kyle land, but I’d like to think that the vast majority will behave sensibly.

It’ll all be be pretty self evident one way or another by mid January.

Just have to scroll down Facebook around the time to see what's happening as no one hides anything haha.

I had one girl on her Snapchat story last night who felt compelled to write #bubble to try cover her arse. Thing is she did that one 4 different snaps with 4 different people lol

There isn't even a lockdown. "Hospitality" is shut (sort of), some retail is shut. That's it.

What a 'kin palaver.

"We cant celebrate Christmas. What would Jesus say if he knew we couldn't shop for gear and get legless at Christmas, have a party with loads of people and stuff our faces with turkey?. He'd be furious. Whaa whaa whaa!!!".
