Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I don’t buy into the conspiracy stuff but there is no doubt at all in my mind that this virus is being used - and will continue to be used - as a mechanism for change. I don’t think it was planned but it is an opportunity for change, one way or the other.

some of that change may well be good (fight against climate change etc)but when you see / hear phrases like “digital ID” knocking about, and “a green currency” (real push to get people who have lost jobs cause of this into ‘tech’ (cyber)), then I think it becomes pretty clear.

I could genuinely see a time in the not so distant future where you’ll have to have had the covid vaccine to travel

Now I’m not against vaccines in the slightest, but I really wouldn’t be surprised if it was the case

Anyone with any sense knew this thing had to have been about before December 30/31 last year and now it’s been all but proven
The ‘Green Economy’ is hardly anything new though and has been discussed for years before this.

Not me but a couple of mates have locked onto it and they seem convinced. Don't know what to exacly believe tbh. After a episode with my daughter coming into contact with a positive case and her not being eligible for a free test disheartened my perception of the stats we are being fed.
I'll just stay waiting for good old "time" to reveal.
What do you mean not being eligible for a free test?

Interestingly this shows excess deaths down for week ending October 30
Excess deaths have dropped. It's a myth people push saying oh excess deaths etc etc.

What we do know is that thousands have died this year that would not have otherwise, it's a pandemic , of course you are going to have excess deaths as a result.

However the last I looked into it, from the middle of August to end of September , excess deaths dropped every week , around 1000 a week I think it was.

Hindsight next year will balance the figures to a more realistic figure of covid , right now it's one extreme to another.

And show the second lockdown was not required is my bet..

Its nonsense terminology, basically people adjusting to combat a grim situation but idiots want to think the virus is designed to change the world to live in a certain predetermined way

Fair enough. I don't know a lot about the build back better/world economic forum theories but i do know the saying 'new normal' makes me want to jump off a bridge. This is fine as long as its temporary.

I know, I just think there will be a massive push for it.

With less travel, less commuting even - more people staying at home.

There'll also be an even bigger push towards cashless purchases too - many places just refuse to take cash now anyway.

Like I said, I don't believe it's a conspiracy (not even saying it's a bad thing, either), but it will be used as a mechanism to change stuff or speed up change.

The main thing is privacy with track and trace I suppose, but I really don't care. The tech companies know where you are at all times anyway. Makes no difference to me.

I just came across it trying to, weirdly, prove to someone else that excess deaths were up as that's what I'd seen Whitty et al say.

Thousands have died this year that may not have done and obviously that's a travesty as with better planning, prep, or an initial idea of how to cope back in March, that could have saved a lot of lives.

I think this is what a few of us on here have been saying, target the lockdown while ensuring the economy continues. I would however add a rider in that those parts of the economy that continue, and in the case of Tesco etc to improve, then the exchequer should use their current/increased profitability to provide further assistance to those targeted for lockdown. Everyone needs to take a small hit. We need every sector to comes out of this still functioning...
