Has he actually said those words ? Ridiculous if so, considering only sixteen hours ago Boris said it would finish early December.
No chance they'd do that. This whole lockdown has been planned so that cases come down before christmas, allowing families to get together and shops to trade. Then, after new year we'll be in full lockdown again when the figures spike.

Could be, not will be.
Which is entirely correct. If people abide by the restrictions and T&T can get a grip of this thing, the four weeks are likely to put a suitable dent in case numbers.

But if it doesn't, well it might need to be extended for a week or even further, To set a rigid time frame and strictly adhering to it is just folly.

Just don't see how they're going to get the cases significantly down in 4 weeks especially with schools still open. Hopefully they can but it took months earlier in the year.

We may be in a state of Tiers until then etc, and we'll probably end up back in some form of lockdown in January once they open up for Christmas.

It's ludicrous, like, but it's their only solution, Europe-wide atm.

Not sure after nine months of knowing this thing was here why it's the only solution, but it is what it is.

You'd think it'd be cheaper to ensure health systems had more capacity than it would be to keep shutting countries down.

Schools have been shown to not be hotspots for spreading the virus. They are more worried about the 18-30 age group. The figures will come down. They'll just go up again as soon as lockdown is lifted.

Pipe dream this. Christmas full of hospitals overflowing and people being encouraged to get out and spend in shops and gather around family and friends.

Not happening.

We've already had the dog whistles from Johnson about 'different type of Christmas'.

I sincerely doubt that within the nine months that we'd be able to build enough hospitals and train enough professionals to maintain the current status quo.

We've spent vast amount of money on track and trace and much less than the likes of Germany, without success; yet, their system is far from perfect either.

Like I alluded to yesterday, the issue in North America and Europe are potentially more to do with socio-demographics, which is a much more complex situation.

It'll be into the new year before we see these restrictions lifted. Schools will be added to them too.

End of the flu season could be the point its safe to release again.

They will definitely lift lock down before Xmas mate UK, i think 6 weeks just might do it or very close to it. First or second week in Dec will be the clever play by the UK government.

They wont want to miss the high street boom this Christmas and no politician is going to cancel Xmas.

The UK is a week and a half behind us, we went in to lock down on the 21st of Oct. Our cases peaked at 1200 odd per day at that point, yesterday we had 416 new cases and we are due to lift restrictions on the 1 of Dec.
