This is bad news then, essentially we are going to be in this cycle forever if a vaccine is not effective?

Depends how severe second / third etc infections are - even if antibodies disappear you have natural T Cells which remember the virus so should hypothetically fight it off more effectively than the first round of infection.

Even with a vaccine I imagine that would be the case as you can still get the flu even with a flu jab I believe?

Interesting to read that in Czech, healthcare staff are still going to work even if they return a positive test result. Their logic is that so long as the person is not exhibiting symptoms, then it's fine for them to work in isolation with patients who are also positive. I've not heard of such an approach being used anywhere else, and have no idea if it's medically sound or more driven by the fact that 13,000 medical staff are currently positive and there is a shortage.

It's a virus makes sense to a point, constant exposure to HIV super charges the immune for a time, it's only when people stop being exposed does HIV really begins dismantling. This was noted in sex industry where multiple exposures compared to the one off transmission.

Flu vaccination is of a one particular strain of flu, there are many. Just 'medical professionals' (Trump and Johnson) are good at picking the most virulent hey presto flu jab. So yes you can still get flu even with vaccination.

At least we finally put to bed the ridiculous 'herd immunity' the right wing nut jobs were foaming at mouth for. They must have awoken every morning for months mumbling Sweden...
The reality is not really herd immunity but normalisation.

Even if it is more dangerous, covid-19 is rather similar to any other coronavirus hence why we always get colds .

We may need a vaccine for it sure but a year or two from now we can't be scared of something that may never go away on that respect. As long as those who need it are protected then something has to normalise in society.

Talking about now and recent past, where people will live and die because people can't stop parroting their political god's.

This will always be about managing the virus have said it for months.

Long Covid is coming into focus now, this will effect all age groups regardless of fitness, and then howling of benefit fraud from the same people parodying herd immunity.

Found an answer to my Trick or Treat query. whether or not it will be adhered to is another matter...

Tier 3 (Very high alert)

Unfortunately, if you live in a Tier 3 area, you and your children will have to stay indoors, carving pumpkins rather than venture out the house looking for sweets because trick or treating will be banned.

Asked about the prospect of the favourite Halloween pastime being banned this year, Boris Johnson's official spokesman said: "If you're in a 'Very High' alert level then you cannot mix with other households indoors or in private outdoor spaces. "

As trick or treating involves knocking on someone's front door, it is safe to assume you would be on their private property by doing so, therefore it breaks the rules.

At last, some good news.

Needs to be taken in context and ignore the headline though.

The headline shouts "Antibodies fade quickly, we're all doomed", but the reality is that the research suggests that 75% of people still have antibodies three months after they previously had antibodies.

The first set of tests were carried out in June and then repeated, but on different people in September. Given the timing of the first set of tests, you'd imagine most of the people with antibodies were infected in March / April, so those with antibodies in September likely had them roughly six months after initial infection.

Flu vaccination programmes happen every twelve months. If a COVID vaccine had to be topped up every twelve months, or even every six months, that still gives us a way of dealing with the virus. Add in the possibilities of T-Cell immunity and low, undetected levels of antibodies being present which still provide some immunity, and it's nowhere near as bad as the headline might suggest.

Get in, that now means I can turn the lights back on at the front of the house.

Some sections of the press really aren’t helping with headlines like this at all.

It’s like they’re he’ll bent on terrifying the nation all for the sake of clicks and circulation.

One of the authors from ICL was interviewed this morning. The difference between the headlines and what was said, both in the interview and in the report is quite stark.

Plainly it would be better news if antibody levels hadn't appeared to drop, but if a vaccination programme ends up with a situation where, at any one time, half the population has immunity, then though that would still leave the unmitigated R at 1.5, the controls needed to keep it at or below 1 wouldn't be anywhere near as stringent as they currently are.

The big headline being COVID DEATHS RISING...meanwhile weekly deaths just meander along at the normal rate....

Actually Pete, if you bothered to look at the detail you'd see that weekly deaths were nearly 7% above average and 7% is outside the normal fluctuation range, so is statistically significant.

That's likely, but not guaranteed ( 95% sure though ), to get worse over at least the next four or five weeks.
