Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

We should all be collectively together fighting coronavirus but it just seems like we're now cities fighting the government whilst COVID ravages people in the background.

Odd nation we live in.
It's a Banana Republic. That's what decades of deregulation and depoliticisation of the population leads to.

It underlines just how bad things have got when a nobhead like Burnham can set himself up as a radical. He is a creature of Manchester's business class. People clapping that Blairite tool as if he's a hero. Utterly laughable.

It has surprised me that we have more than one vaccine program going on rather than a collective all kinds together approach to it.

Are Europe under the EU banner doing that?

That's a far too simplistic way of looking at things.

100 people might have poorer health due to a lockdown and not one of them be suicidal.
That would he assuming that I was saying covid = suicide which would be far too simplistic of a statement.

I was just refering to Dave saying some people can just suffer. Given the effects of job losses, loss of income and all the rest of it at the best of times being such a horrible pit to be in. I wouldn't want anyone to 'suffer' mental health so frivolously.

Reading about the 60 ICU beds across the 3 Liverpool hospitals, they are always over 90% full every winter. How did they think that would be sufficient for this winter with covid alongside everything else?

Some of these 'circuit lockdowns' seem to still have schools open as well. They will be ineffective if schools are kept open.

This is the key for me - it's not even being discussed.

Lockdown properly or not at all. Two weeks full on, hard lockdown. It's not hard to understand - it's either worth the hit to the economy or it isn't.

Well no because your response to Dave made it sound like his post was accepting of suicides without knowing if there even would be any. Just pulling you up as you quite often put words in other peoples mouths.

I agree mate. Schools are one of the main things spreading it. The perfect time would have been around half term so the kids would only miss one week of face to face teaching and that week off would have been online yet they are just leaving it.

So if they have to do it further down the line the kids will suffer more with their education as it will be 2 full weeks off school. Doesn't make any sense to me.

His words were let some people suffer mental health issues

What words am I putting in his mouth there? lol

I read either on here or elsewhere that the royal icu was small anyway.

If be surprised if the royal don't look to use the new building again for patients over the wintet as they did back in April / may for that additional capacity.

What I can tell you is front line staff are being tested over the next few weeks and the mask policy has stretched to even patients now and all staff even in covid secure areas.

Can I ask you, what else is letting people suffer mental health going to accomplish?

I'm not saying that was what Dave meant at all, just, what is the end result of that?

I don't think you read what he wrote.

Dave basically said mental health for some will suffer, for others it might improve (correct).

You telling him he's accepting of people committing suicide is just bizarre but it's you so no real surprises.
