Indeed. Hard to imagine anyone is made up right now, but equally, it's hard to imagine the best approach is to continuously pine for things you can't do right now. Seems smarter to try and find enjoyment where you can. Like Schopenhauer said, the world is kinda what you want it to be.

Goes to show just how uncomfortable many people are in their own company.

How would modern day citizens have coped back in the 1800s living by oil lamp with literally nothing to do !

I don't mind being on my own at all. In fact I prefer it generally when I can have a bit of both.

Thing is, I'm happy to do loads of stuff on my own. I'll go shopping, drop for a coffee and sit in and read a few articles or a book, been to a fair few gigs on my own, been to the footy on my own plenty too.

The point is, you can't do any of that atm, or what you can do, is under severe restrictions.

Well, that probably leads onto another issue - we have had to collectively deal with a significant mental shock. Having stuff yanked away does take a huge adjustment for many people. Our mental health service support capacity is insufficient in normal times. People are suffering unfortunately. But I agree, it is healthier to accept and adapt ultimately.

The #liverpoollockdown twitter revolt. No surprise it's full of tweets with YNWA all over them.

Yeah, we're imprisoned...just all the restaurants and nearly all the pubs that'll remain open. It's like the Warsaw Ghetto. Revolt!!!

"kin bell ends should be dragged into the covid19 wards at the Royal and Fazakerley and see what this is all about.

Been reading some of Primo Levi's stuff this year. If people could find ways to mentally get through something as horrific as the Holocaust then I reckon we should be able to get by.

Just a note, I'm laughing at your description, not the sentiment.

The worst is surely Neil Ferguson, every estimate he has ever done has been completely wrong.
I'm sorry but this is nonesense. If you actually bother to read them rather than relying on headlines and hearsay, the models from Ferguson et al (because it's not just Ferguson) were incredibly useful and almost entirely right.

Its not that far off is it?

Well half of Liverpool and Newcastle must be empty. Faliraki is chokka and I mean chokka with scousers and geordies. It's like 'The village of the Damned 'lol

Yeah that's fine mate. I get that. I'm not trying to absolve responsibility fully.

Just also don't see any positive impact any of the government's rules have had (bar lockdown, which is obviously grim).

None of the govs rules have had a positive impact? I suspect it's just the application of them that's preventing that.

- Social distancing
- Masks indoors
- Restricting group sizes
- Genuine attempts to get most people to work away from home.

All of those are very clear and very positive rules in my eyes for reducing viral transmissions.

Imperial estimated the case fatality at around 1% which probably is fairly accurate. That chart does cover a wide variety of outcomes so its difficult to judge whether they got it completely right, time will tell.

Historically he hasn't got the best record with other estimates for flus etc but you are right that the 500,000 estimate was just a headline.

Ferguson was a headline grabbing idiot who bounced the country into total lockdown and destroyed the economy.....
