Anderson confirming that restaurants will not only stay open, but they will extend opening hours to 10.30 from 10pm.

I'm sorry, but how on earth is that logical when pubs and betting offices and gyms are being shut down?

The virus doesn't enter restaurants then?

Because in a restaurant, you're sat in a designated seat for the duration of your visit - and the seating has been distanced in a certain way to avoid social interaction.

Oh, and you need to wear a mask whenever you stand up

Clear enough?

People still interact and most buildings around me, restaurants included, are very small spaces with little leeway on the 1meter rule. Surely restaurants will just become busier also. And what even defines a restaurant, every pub serves food and was told to do table service?

Also people are pretty grim. See it every day in hospitality.

It’s a lot, lot easier to social distance in a restaurant.

It’s funny how people can make comparisons with New Zealand because it suits their agenda.

Make a comparison with Sweden and you get all sorts of abuse.

I'm puzzled that Sweden is held up as this one great example of herd immunity working. They have one of the highest death rates in Europe and their economy is no better than anyone else's at the moment. Denmark and Norway have done far better

No, it's not. They serve alcohol and social distancing is a problem in those settings AND people's voices get louder as a night wears on. Also, it's indoor, it's people in a confined space, it's people seated for hours in the same place, it's an airborn virus.

All the criteria that Van Tam just stated were reasons pubs and betting offices are getting shut apply to restaurants....which is why they were shut until July.
