Aye, retrain, for what?

You can't get a quick, easy bar job, because the hospitality trade is on its a***.

Most big companies will still use furlough/job support scheme too, so can't get a job with them.

Utter jokers.

In even more depressing news, my mate's granddad died of it last night. Was only in the hospital 6 days so, in a way, at least it was quickish. Was a miner and had chronic COPD but obviously still very sad. Worst thing is my mate is the only one in his entire extended family who isn't isolating atm as he hadn't been in direct contact with his granddad. My dad's cousin was like 2-3 weeks on a ventilator IIRC.

Really don't see a way out of this and this government aren't going to protect people whose lives have been ruined either.

There's also a massive shift to get people into jobs in the energy and manufacturing industry.

Bit 1984, innit. Worker bees.

Think you can say that without being a conspiracy nut/not thinking this virus is real - cause it's clearly very serious.

Basically go and take low paid, low skilled jobs off people that rely on them.

That’s how the job market and economy eventually implode.

My Mrs has now resorted to minimum wage gigs in coffee shops now and still can’t get any luck.

You can’t protect every job, no, but you can protect the job market as a whole.

And your Mrs and loads of others won't be helped by the fact that it's going to be extremely hard to get an independent place off the ground in the coming months and there's uncertainty over more closures due to restrictions etc.

There's a place in Leeds where I love to go for a coffee and it's had to split the capacity in half because of the lay out. Obviously they're doing what they have to do and using a booking system, but that's still half capacity, so less trade - which means less need / allowance for staff.

i developed a cough sunday night, so went for a test yesterday morning. Missus has to isolate also.
You don't half go into 'autopilot' though. I cycled to the testing site and on the way home realised we didn't have any milk.

I popped into the shop to get some, only when i got home did i realise what i'd done after getting a barrage from the other half

Yet my cousin who is 13 has tested positive (just a mild cough and I'm sure she'll be fine), and her mum has been told by track and trace to continue going to work...

The lockdown measures need to cease. It’s here to stay and we need to accept it. Lets just get back to normal.

I agree but in the winter it just can't happen, and every country is the same, that's the issue.

It needs one country to take the step and go with it.

But then I think of my dad's cousin, who was healthy but had a stomach problem and got it in hospital, and was dead within weeks. He was 69 and leaves behind his wife and kids. Then I think of my mate's granddad, who 8 days ago was fine and died last night.

There has to be a middle ground.

Given we're heading into the winter, there'd probably be far too many deaths on top of a flu season.

But then again I'm not sure if the measures they say are working - globally, not just in the UK - are working like they say they are, either.

From Friday night in Frankfurt there will be a curfew from 22:00-06:00. Consumption of alcohol prohibited in public spaces. Gatherings of no more than 25 in public, 10 in private. Masks to be worn in outdoor pedestrian shopping areas.

Some of those seem a bit odd to me lol

More evidence that no governments (regional or national) have a clue.
