Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Nah man it's just odd. They never sound like someone genuinely talking to people, it's like a prepared statement , that's how they sound.

It says nothing about posting the video on social media neither so the video to go with it was made for press so to speak at a guess.

Now fair enough if you want to scare people that way to comply , the skeptic in me says part of the story isn't emphasised as he has pneumonia as well which will be the reason he is holed up in hospital.

Just, if you want people to take them more seriously then have them talk like normal people in their messages, get the point across a lot more impactful.

It’s like when an inexperienced police officer takes a statement off a member of the public and it’s littered with “ police speak “ :

“ I was driving my car in a westerly direction “

The public don’t talk like that lol

Hospital figures - 19 deaths were announced today, down 4 on yesterday and up 4 on last Sunday. 17 deaths were in English hospitals, down 3 on yesterday and up 5 on last week with all occurring in the past 10 days. The 7 day rolling average rises slightly to 25.57

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 17 deaths were announced today, down 18 on yesterday and down one on last Sunday. The 7 day rolling average falls slightly to 30.14

There has been no data released as yet for the 60 day and legacy cut offs

Having 'done media' a number of times, my number one piece of advice is talk normally. You sound completely unengaging otherwise.

Try not to listen to your communications people too closely and definitely don't follow the script, unless you are specifically following a prepared statement.

Particularly with something difficult to understand or complex, simple language and clear instructions are key.

Yeah, good advice.

The media video just feels fake, even if the fella genuinely is having a bad time right now. If it was a Facebook video where he was talking naturally then far more people would watch, share and listen. The guy Is admitting to being a bit casual about the pandemic so it would have a much bigger intended impact.

It's like back in april where stories would crop up all officially written rather than sounding like a genuine person.

Part of my part time job at home has me reading stories like it (not covid stuff) and it really does stand out as being false.

The message may be genuine that the media want to get across but it's just done in the worst way. I'd also question why a fella on a hospital bed suddenly has reporters there to take a video of his story for the news out of the blue as well, but then who knows how that came about.

Love it when we don't have a weekly increase with deaths.

The daily positive tests today are slightly down on yesterday, which I guess is "good" news. Only one day, obvs, but hopefully there will be a period of stability, tests wise.

Main age range is the young'uns too, which not wanting to sound bad, wont lob a ton of pressure on the NHS.

Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Social Distance.

That's wrong, but it can in no way shape or form be used to undermine the message that wearing a face mask should be the minimum act of courtesy for public safety in an environemnt like that one.

All the other spectators had them and respected each other's heath and she chose not to.

Thats what grinds my gears re masks. Its to protect other people, not you.

(I fully accept that contradicts my posts in the Labour Party "post war society" thread btw!)

It's outside, at Bundesliga spectators are not forced to wear face maks, many chose not to, as I noticed this week. Because social distancing was spot on.

Also
masks are essential for public health but the officer touching her all over, global pandemic eh...these measures will be used a lot by the right wing govs in the post covid world..socialists should wake up mate.

Same old story: some people couldn't give two hoots about others, just as long as their 'right' to do whatever they like is unimpeded.

It comes back to the same post I have wearily made for months.

I see 100% mask compliance. A cheerful SD attitude between strangers. Cant speak for hand washing obvs, but the majority use the cleaning stuff entering a supermarket.

Some places have lock down. My area seems to have swerved the worst of it.
