The restrictions to our activities aren't about testing people though, are they? They're to try and limit the spread of the virus. It just seems odd that the government aren't doing anything effective to police those we know are supposed to be self-isolating while actively restricting the movement of those that we believe (until evidence shows otherwise) are clean.

Everything that’s done seems to be reactive rather than pro active.

There doesn’t seem to be a cohesive plan whatsoever.

Until a vaccine is found, these spikes are going to be a way of life.

If you take the last week day as a guide, the UK had 6 deaths, or 1 per 10 million people (roughly), whereas Czech had 2 deaths, or 1 per 5 million people (roughly). In terms of cases generally, they had a case for every 6,900 people, versus the UK's case for every 16,900 people.

So if fatality is the key metric, they're doing worse than the butchering banana republic you harangue each day, and doing worse by quite a margin. Sadly after talking to the mother in law yesterday, the population seem to be (bizarrely) much more laissez faire now than they were in March, and the government is determined to keep the economy open at whatever cost.
The way you snort with derision at my description and attack on them you'd think it were fanciful.

Shut downs coming very soon on Merseyside. Pubs, restaurants, gyms, salons. All going to get shut. And not before time.

It's a piss take in a pandemic that they remain open.

I just find it peculiar that you're happy to cuddle up to Babis as doing a great job, even when they're clearly not any more. We've seen the abuse you've thrown at Johnson for putting the economy before everything else. At least be balanced.
They'll handle a second wave better than the Banana Republic will; just like they did with the first wave. 451 deaths so far for the Czech Republic. Very low in comparison with other places.

No one is forced to go to any of those venues. Constantly wanting to take away people's liberties is a bit weird.
It's a bit weird to want places that act as massive drivers for the passing on of a deadly virus to be closed down?

I think it's weird not wanting to 'take them away'.

They need shutting down. NOW.

You’re happy for a lot of places to go out of business then and for thousands of people to be unemployed through no fault of their own?

Why not give those premises support whilst they are closed? That would be more sensible than keeping them open and infecting loads, or letting them go to the wall and then pay out dole.

Also absolutely baffled by the fact people still keep moaning that about economy v health.

They are one and the same issue. If we let the economy tank then people's health suffers dramatically. If the virus rises significantly then the economy will suffer dramatically. We need to find the right balance because they are so closely linked that one cannot be seperated from the other.

5th richest economy in the world they never tire of telling us. This place can take the hit of continuing to furlough non-essential workers.

Other countries are doing it like Germany and France. It's a political choice.

Nope. The furlough scheme has been the best scheme in europe for job security. Not just for individuals, but also a life saver for industries. But it's totally unsustainable to spend this sort of money on wage subsidies for more than 7 or 8 months.

We have to learn to get on with day to day life and mitigate the risks until a vaccine. "Just close everything now" is a ridiculous argument and if that's all we've got then we need a new government and new advisors.

Aren’t you an account by profession ?

It’s ridiculous, but in the absence of a working track and trace system that can identify and resolve outbreaks it is the only humane option. If this second wave does the same or worse damage than the first, the economic damage even if they keep it open is going to be horrific.
