Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I am worried. I'm worried about my 4 year old niece as she has had some issues in the past. Both of her parents are in groups that would be described as at risk as well. I'm very very worried about it all.
One of the few good things about this virus is that kids, even those with pre-existing conditions, seems to be remarkably resilient to it. Obviously don’t know their personal situation but is there any way they as a family can try to limit their exposure at all? Even reducing things by 25% could go a long way along with the basic hygiene precautions.

There is no way people over here have grasped the true extent of Spain and Italy yet. I am aware of the desperation there because of a few groups I am in on Whatsapp and Facebook. Many here believe everything will be fine as long as they have enough frozen pizzas to last a couple of weeks.
There's drones flying around here telling people to stay in their homes. Just glad I don't live in a city and have a little land. Police are fining people for being outside. I can't see how this won't happen in UK. Although God knows how they will police it in a big city. People here are taking it very seriously indeed.

La Guardia Civil commands a bit more respect over there than the Keystone Cops over here.

Thanks. I've told my sister to keep her three kids off school and she has agreed.

I know they are saying that kids seem to be more immune but I'm not entirely confident in such claims, and she has had physical issues in the past. She really struggled with a bad cough / cold just a few weeks ago back in January.
If they can do it mate they are better safe than sorry. :) particularly where kids are concerned

What are most people’s employers doing?

Mine have cancelled all but essential business travel and have asked everyone who can work from home do so.

As another poster has said, if she goes to nursery or school take her out to stop her passing it on to her parents as it is the perfect place for the virus to be picked up and then passed on to parents and family. Don't wait for the government to close the schools, get them to speak to the headteacher and explain the situation that they may be at risk and hopefully a plan can be agreed.

Obviously then you have to consider what the parents do for work to see how likely they pick it up, but with good hygiene techniques and hand sanitizer always on the go, fingers crossed they can minimise the risk.

Think they would have better things to do like catching criminals

There will not be drones flying around in most UK towns or smaller cities.

I'm lucky that where I live is pretty open. It's a suburb of a small city. I'll be able to go out if I want to.

I guess in inner cities and especially London it'll be different.

Fed up of it all anyway. It's already here and the only way to beat it is by, unfortunately, getting it.
