Thats what I cant get. Even though my town is following all the rulez, its apparent enough are not. Its not like they are difficult.

SD. Mask in shop. Wash your hands.

The infection rate or level in the UK is stable, and low. Local outbreaks are inevitable, but country wide, a few more weeks or months of doing the basics to keep on top of it seems so attainable.
Complacency or ignorance or maybe a mix of both. As you say, just keep the basics going and it could mean a huge difference in managing the virus until a vaccine arrives.

Have every bill board carry a simple message. End every news report with the same message, with an optimistic tag line, "Getting there" "Thank you UK, nearly there", sommet like that.

In my local shop there is a sign on the Perspex board at the till saying “Thank you for wearing a mask and caring for our community”.

If that doesn’t shame people into wearing a mask then I just don’t know.

Similar here. Must be half a dozen signs asking to wear a face covering at Sainsburys, similar at the butchers, not allowed in the chemist without one, med condition notwithstanding.

And as I have boringly posted numerous times, I see 100% compliance.

Like its not like we have been told to learn to juggle kettles to control it is it?

Not sure how it works over there but a shambles has been made here over the enforcement message. The Dept of Health and shop keepers say it is for the police to ensure compliance.

The police say it is for the shopkeeper to enforce.

Really not a time for mixed messages.

I have no idea about enforcement, cos I havnt seen the need for it. But when the beaches were a bit swamped, Plod were on hand pretty quickly by all accounts.

The message is the same as you I think. I had to go into Bristol a week or so back, was a bit nervous if I am honest, but even in a city, most were wearing a mask anyrate, all were in the shops I needed to go to. By its nature, SD is harder in a city, but all the main pavements had been mad wider by making the roads a bit narrower with barriers, so I felt safer than I thought I would.

And I am happy to concede that I am an absolute freak about this. Regular readers will know why.

All settings - 60 day and legacy data figures are unavailable again but for the 28 day cut off the figure announced is 11, 7 down from yesterday and one down from last Friday leaving the 7 day rolling average for that area of data at 12.57

The earlier hospital figure sees that 7 day rolling average fall to 10.43

I've been in Liverpool for the past week visiting family. I've seen a lot less masks in shops/pubs than in London (where I live). I've been in 3 pubs and always sit outside. But none of the bar staff have been wearing masks. One had a shield round the till but the others didn't really have anything. In fairness they were all good in terms of social distancing and controlling numbers so that's something I guess

The UK has recorded its highest daily rise in coronavirus infections for two months, with government data showing a total of 1,441 new cases.

In the light of that, "businesses such as bowling alleys, soft play centres and casinos can now reopen in England as lockdown rules ease. More beauty treatments, small wedding receptions and live indoor performances can also resume."

Sleepwalking us in to a second wave, just like they did with the first wave.
