Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

It's been a success really. I've been out twice this week and it's been busy both times.
I think most restaurants make money from being busy at weekends and just ticking over during the week. But because they'll be working at 50% capacity or worse at the moment, they really need to be busy every day of the week. This addresses that issue and what looked little more than a gimmick when it was announced may actually turn into a decent idea.

Trouble is what happens come September. Will most people stay at home midweek?

I know a lot of people that will cram as much as they can into August and not bother with September.

I can imagine an extension to it if successful, perhaps for another month, in the hope that it becomes familiar to people and they feel more confident to continue.

Similarly, on a walk around the river last night, there wasn't a restaurant in sight with any spare tables. It's certainly got people out.
Which is good. Provided measures are in place then it is beneficial in a number of ways.

For my part I've picked my time - late afternoon or early in the evening - to minimise the number of people and it has meant I've had my option of tables.

I'm guessing here, but I suspect that it'll be for reasons similar to what's being seen in Spain. Over there, they're not restricting tests to just people with symptoms, so 70% of positive cases are asymptomatic. If the situation in the Czech Republic is similar, then the 5,200 active cases would be equivalent to about 1500 people with symptoms.

So, in terms of people with symptoms, that'd equate to a hospitalisation rate of not far off 10%.

Aye, they don't provide that kind of granularity (to my knowledge), but it would seem logical to assume that as testing has increased then they will catch more people with milder symptoms, although unless they're testing random people, it seems unlikely that they'll be catching any of those with no symptoms?

Test and trace will pick them up too

We don’t do food, but those that do register with the government and give a discount of 50% up to a max of £10 per person. There are no vouchers, the outlet puts the sale in, plus the discount and the government makes up the difference. Seems to be working. I bought my granddaughter an ice cream at a very small Cafe and it just went straight through the till showing the original price and the discounted price....
What is stopping an outlet changing the date on the computer/till on a Friday night to read Mondays date then ringing the 'receipts for the weekend through Mon to Wed deducting the 50% and slotting the discount?
I don't have experience of working in the catering trade but it could certainly be do ne in my last line of work.
Of course I wouldn't dream of doing such an underhand thing so this is just hypothetical.

Yep, that’s what I’ve seen as well. Might even take advantage of it sometime....

Most Epos systems automatically log daily sales and do not allow that to happen. In addition payments by Card are logged separately again by both the card reader and the Bank with the date. The outlets accountant would invariably see this and any suspected malfeasance investigated by HMRC would result in large fines and prison sentences...but crooks will be crooks......

Fair enough as i said its not my line of business , I could change the date of an invoice and add a discount after a sale before updating to the system.
Our accountant would be none the wiser and not see card receipts just totals which didn't always tally with the transaction date.
You know the business I don't but I am sure there is a scam there somewhere.
